Hail. Boils. Locusts. Take away their first-born. On and on we go, our extremely legitimate outrage morphing into ... well, just more outrage, really. And this leads us to that big, ominous dark cloud that looms whenever a major NCAA scandal hits: The death penalty.

    That's one of the best articles I've read. Some of the arguments he makes aren't the best ones (IMO), but some are very, very good.

    I particularly liked this little blurb:

    "Effectively, the NCAA would be saying: 'Jail and public humiliation were not punishment enough. We need to take away the ability to win football games.' The NCAA would be making football seem more important, not less important."

    Very well done. Just because the situation causes outrage doesn't mean every penalty in the book is deserved.

    Exactly. There are always contrarians, so I wasn't surprised to see a couple of blogs pop up who disagreed with the masses initially. As time goes by, people are going to 1) actually read the Freeh Report and the evidence, and 2) cool down.

    I like the result. Don't like that Erickson is an idiot about how he went about it. Wow. Erickson needs to go ASAP. As soon as he's done responding to the NCAA- which I PRAY he has plenty of help with. He is an idiot and I wouldn't want him to have too much of a role there.

    It should come down but I don't like that we are tearing it down late at night out of the "daylight". Tear the damn thing down at high noon for Christ's sakes. Grow some balls and make a statement to all those protesters that will be there and to the country. Don't take it down in the middle of the night to try and "cover it up". So lame........

    It is best for the statue to come down and Erickson is making sure that happens. He isn't letting the board who is full of mostly incompetent people screw up the decision.

    A calculated risk. They have to avoid some kind of conflict here. I am really worried about some students doing something incredibly dumb.
