Good thing about Vanderdoes is that he is not all about the Cali weather. Oregon is kind of a wet cool climate if I am nost mistaken. So I think distance is the only thing in my mind.

Re: the distance.
I remember that O'Brien mentioned in one of the coaches caravan stops that when he and the coaches talk to a recruit from a long distance location, the first thing they do is explain to that recruit the transport options to get to State College and the difficulty of flying in. This allows the prospect to determine early on if that is something he and his family are willing to take on.
Considering this and how it doesnt seem to have put Vanderdoes off PSU much, i'm inclined to think that the distance isnt as a big factor for him as it is for someone like Dorian Johnson. I think it will factor in to his decision somewhat but it likely wont be an overriding factor. He is still likely to stay out west but if the coaches and facilities in State College impress him enough I can see us factoring prominently in the race.

The great thing about Vanderdoes having us down as an official visit, is that he is a big time national recruit in California. This brings awareness to PSU and helps develop relationships with coaches, especially in Cali, seeing that PSU is recruiting there now. So it could setup nicely in the future for players who might not have given PSU the time of day before.
