No, it isn't. Unless the facility is a greenhouse, you cannot have a grass field indoors. Arizona's solution is pretty much the only way that you could have it.

Very informative. Learned something new. Thanks for that. I've just always been a fan of natural after getting hurt on turf. Learn something new every day

You just learned grass needs direct sunlight to grow? I assume you were not a biology major. LOL. J/k

Tweets from Michael Chung an OSU columnist part of Silver Bullets...

@michael4469: Source close to Ohio State mentioned Alex Anzalone as a good kid, loves his family and would not be surprised to see Anzalone at Penn State.

@michael4469: Source also mentioned that the five LBs from 2012 class along with Connor Crowell may have also been a factor.

@michael4469: With Jaylon Smith also a potential recruit, depth may have scarred Anzalone. Source thinks J Smith will go ND because he could play earlier.

no yeah, now come the excuses like "afraid of competition" to try to make them feel better....

Does Michael Chung not understand reality here. OSU took 50,000 linebackers last year and AA was the second LB in this class. If he was afraid or scared of competition or depth chart, he wouldn't have verballed to OSU in the first place. If he does pledge to Florida, this clown will look like even a bigger fool because Florida has four linebackers already in the class.

  • I dont think Musselman knows the difference between turfs. That post makes it seem like PSU still has the original "artificial turf" aka Astroturf. The newer, more grass like turf, has been known as Field Turf (even if the company is not FieldTurf, they were pretty much the first ones. Sort of like all artificial turf companies artificial turf was regular called astroturf and/or artificial turf).

I dont think they would be putting in grass. It would be extremely expensive to maintain, and indoor facilities (like the Cards) have a roll where they can slide the grass outside when not in use for natural weather.

You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game, life or football-the margin for error is so small. -Pacino

I know that, duh... If they changed it out like MTayl said, I didnt think it'd be a problem. Either way, like I said, Im sure an updated field in Holuba will go a long way, and our boys deserve it.

Yeah, that Arizona method is really cool, just learned about it. Hoping that there is a new turf that feels really close to grass like you said. Whatever the best stuff is, Im hoping for that.

The new fieldturf style is pretty good. They actually got fieldturf for my HS football field the year after I graduated, so never got to play on it, but it is prob. the nicest fieldturf next to Oregon's Autzen Stadium (It has the different shades of green every 5 yards too like Oregon, which is a lot more expensive to do). When I played, we had sinkholes (seriously, we had to cancel a game one time to a different field the next day. Talk about screwing up stuff), the field wasnt level, not much grass, etc...It was a disaster waiting to happen. They also got a brand new fieldhouse and weightroom and have almost as many uniforms as Oregon does now (I am fudging that a bit, but they now have tons of different color combos with pants/helmets/jerseys...Even all blacks even though our school colors are red and blue).

However, I did get to play on FieldTurf, as one of the schools in our conference had it for awhile. And also played on lots of fieldturf and astroturf (astroturf on the old PSU lacrosse/Field hockey fields) for 7 on 7 tourneys, but FieldTurf is light and days a difference for the better. Fieldturf is much closer to grass, completely different setup than astro, and a lot of times safer (lots of studies done on it, but I think they were funded by Field Turf companies, so yeah), better footing, feel, etc than a lot of fields with natural grass that is not maintained well. I still prefer pristine maintained regular grass cut smell and feel for football, and nothing beats the grass that is at Beaver Stadium, which IMO has one of the top nicest surfaces to play on in the world.

I am sure Field Turf has come a long way since then, maybe someone in PSUs Turf Grass Management can give us a better understanding.

  • Field Turf is also one of the reasons why you see so many players wearing visors now. Field Turf has sand mixed with little rubber pellets as its base. It tends to skip up, and has a chance to get into eyes.

I hope he does not want to go that far, and wants to play with his Calvart Hall buddies and have a All-Calvart Hall secondary.

We just cant seem to get much luck with a safety. Our staff is getting on these guys early too. We lose him to Bama then we will have lost both Delando and anthony Averet.

We went to visit... We want him in camp too... If we lose him, that will be a terrible blow...

They settle a lot after year 1, by yeat 3 it aint too bad. Also those visors do nothing to stop pellets getting in your eye area, trust me. I dont think thats a big reason at all why people are starting to wear them, more for the look than anything.

No one installs astroturf anymore and they havent for a decade. Its still around but all turf for at least the last ten years has been field turf.

The ghetto schools in Chicago still use it. They came down in the playoffs to play us once, most didnt have cleats (dont need em on astroturf) asked if they could borrow some. That was a fun victory pushing kids around on grass in Jordans. Stupid Chicago public league.

That's interesting. Probably why he never got back to PSU in the middle of the week then like he said he was thinking about doing with his parents.

Maybe not astroturf, but turf... Just saying I didnt have good memories. Dont know what it was, or what specifics, but it wasnt real grass. But I hear you guys... We are getting an upgrade. Whatever it is, Im all for it, and have a major man crush on OB and Fitz

  • Unless they changed since I graduated, Holuba is currently field turf. They may just be upgrading as it is getting a little old.
