  • I hate that the studio felt the need to force the role on a big name actor. Jackman is far too small and prissy to be a believable Wolverine.

I haven't read the X-Men in over 20 years but I believe Wolverine was fairly short in stature.

    Short yes, small no.

He was clearly miscast physically if they wanted to stay true to the comics but an even more egregious example of an actor not "looking the part" was Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings. Aragorn was supposed to be very tall and imposing. Sean Bean who played Boromir looked more like how I pictured Aragorn than Viggo. It bothered me a bit at first but Viggo was so good otherwise that it really didn't affect my enjoyment of the series.

    Does Aragorn die?

Well then Sean Bean would've been terrible for that role.

He did produce one of my favorite moments in any comic book movie though.

  • Just got done watching History's Vikings...definitely, a good kickoff to the series.

  • Anyone watch "the following"? I was into it for a couple episodes, but it just gets more ridiculous every week (and it's only in the first season). It's entertaining, but partially because it's so absurd.

I started watching it on Hulu after the second episode.

It's nothing groundbreaking, but I think it's a solid, entertaining TV show. Former cop/fed/suit with a drinking problem who caught a famous criminal who escapes eventually and he's tapped to bring him back. It follows the formula well, while adding in a twist. It knows it's not Breaking Bad, and it's not trying to be. I give it a thumbs up, and I give them two or three seasons to wrap the story up before Fox cancels it. Fringe got lucky.

Every week I tell my buddy "this is just too ridiculous" and he always says "but were you entertained?" Definitely can keep my attention, but I can't help but laugh at some of it. And yeah, no idea why they kept renewing Fringe, but I wasn't gonna complain about that.

I really really liked Fringe season 1 and 2. It was "science" based X-Files. Got kinda boring after that. But I think The Following can be a good show for 2 or 3 seasons. It's like network TV Silence of the Lambs with a cult that is safe for TV,

I'm curious to see how this season finishes. Through half of the season I think at this point and there is an entire cult full of crazy serial killers with a leader who is 9 steps ahead of everyone else. Seems a bit too easy for them.

I love it, but I haven't seen the last two episodes (on my DVR).

It's definitely intense, but when they leave the door as wide open as they did, there are a lot of things that could happen that they could justify within the scope of reality within their series.

I still don't understand why they don't just eff with the killer in prison. If they stop informing him of what was going on, or denied one of the actions his disciples took, he wouldn't know any better. Why not just screw with him and mentally sever the connection between he and his followers?

It started getting stupid with the chick trying to kill Kevin Bacon's character with the magnets. Whoever the medical advisor for the show is should get fired.

Other than that, it's like Mission Impossible except the missions are given to social misfits and nutjobs.

That was a little weird, but as a whole I like the show.

Now that he has this creepy freaky horde of psychos at his disposal, I bet things are going to get much stranger as the season goes along. Some serious flaws with the whole storyline, but it's still entertaining.

I'm a few weeks behind on the Americans, but I like that show quite a bit too. I liked the Following better at the start, but looking a season or two down the road I think the Americans will overtake the Following in terms of entertainment.

Also, fantasy baseball draft starts on Saturday. Anybody else going to play?

'The Americans' is significantly better than 'The Following', imo. Just caught up on both last night. Of course, I am hooked on most of the shows on FX right now....Justified, The Americans, Archer, and Legit.

The Following keeps being in danger of being cut from my rotation every week, but stays suspenseful enough that I decide to keep watching. I think that is the only thing on the broadcast networks that I am watching on a weekly basis.

    POV

  • The male lead on The Americans is great. He has one of those faces that can be completely changed with small touches, such as a pair of glasses, which is perfect for a spy. But Keri Russell sort of sucks.
