I have a strong distaste for Esquire and their hack job on PSU/Joe, but this is a great story.

It is long at like 15,000 words, but definitely worth the read when you have some time to read and digest the story. Some humor, sadness, anger, happiness, surprises, and so forth.

So i read some of it but the one question I have is why didn't he just wait the extra three years or whatever it was and receive his full pension and benefits?? I know these guys operate differently than normal human beings but technically wasn't his career "mission" to serve 20 years and that is what was required and he fell short and didn't complete the "mission". I'm sorry this man is a Hero but I think the part that is getting overlooked is he quit. I have a hard time feeling sorry for someone that knows what the requirements were and quit knowing the consequences then bitches about the consequences.

Don't want to sound like a hard ass or that I'm ungrateful because I am. I just think the story about this guy is a bit misleading.

I like how you are jumping to conclusions (sound familiar) before even reading the whole story. He "quit?" Are you serious? Read the whole story. It explains it all.

It is easy for us civilians to sit here and say we'd do this...But these Seals can only take so much. Imagine having to say goodbye to your kids/family and be almost 100% sure you will never see them again, week after week, year after year.

I dont know much about Seals, but I have never heard that your career "mission" is you must stay in the military for 20 years. I dont think it is required to serve 20 years to finish your career "mission." You can sign up and serve however many years. Yes, 20 years to receive the benefits, but even then they are a joke. A Navy SEAL is much different than a Navy Choirboy. Fact is, even if you do make it 20 years, veterans have a tough time adjusting and its another problem that needs to be dealt with.

To say that this guy "quit" is such a joke of a statement. Read the freaking story before you pass judgement on this guy and saying he "quit." Pathetic. Sorry it just gets me steamed when people say shit and dont know what they are talking about or act like they'd do this or that...We've heard it since Nov. 2011.

You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game, life or football-the margin for error is so small. -Pacino

  • Also, serving 20 years and never seeing battle is much different than being the life force on the ground for multiple missions of the longest running American war in history. Called one for the toughest missions day after day.

Heck, people quit their civilian jobs because they "dont like it." So any military member, especially an active Navy SEAL who doesnt serve 20 years is a "quitter?"

Best part is Leonard could have lost... If the other dude would have wagered more and got it right he could have beat leonard. Freaking power move by Leonard. How funny would it have been if the other dude nailed the answer and bet it all. Bet Trebeck would have had a fun time rubbing that in.

Actually the other dude didn't even need to wager more. He bet $7k and lost it to finish with $26.4k. If he simply got it correct, he would've finished with $40.4k and won. I assume he chose to wager $7k for that exact reason.

Ok quit was maybe too strong of a word, but the main argument I was trying make was he didn't fulfill his time commitment. He didn't. And he didn't stay on as a reservist or the other role mentioned to receive benefits. There was a deal and he completely 100% backed out. Should he get nothing? Probably not, but he knew the terms. I know he went through unspeakable things and continuing on would be hard but he knew when he left the military this was the outcome and he shouldn't be bitching about it.

And I think this Esquire piece is a hackjob. They deliberately left out the part that he could have gotten benefits if he would have stayed in a part time role. And when it was eventually incuded it was included in the very end.

I know some guy on tBB was trying to say she's fat. IDK I think she's great. She also smiled at me at a Ranger game so I can't say I'm impartial.

I'm just not a huge fan of the face. She doesn't have that stunningly beautiful face that I look for, but anyone saying she isn't a 9 out of 10 is kidding themselves. I'd do a lot of things to even touch one of her boobs.

I share Morgan Spurlock's feelings on it (even though he's a hack and he sucks). It's an amazing fake documentary. Most of it feels way too convenient to be real, but it's still entertaining and engaging enough for that factor to not detract from it.

edit: also, amazon streaming has it available. Their rentals are usually 4 to 6 bucks for HD, and if you have a PS3, there is an Amazon app in case you don't like watching things on your computer. Amazon, Netflix, and Hulu plus have basically made cable obsolete.

And I finished House of Cards season 1 last week. It's nothing ground-breaking, but man does it do it's thing to a T. I'm mad that I have to wait for season 2.

On a more positive note, I bought Wreck It Ralph last week, and that was more than worth the purchase. It's not as funny as other Pixar/Disney movies, and it's not as heartfelt, but it's very very enjoyable. Halfway through the movie I realized that I was smiling the whole time, and no matter what I tried, I couldn't stop.
