OT Thread V2.0

  • I don't feel like finding the old one, so here this is.

Netflix's first original series debuted a week or two ago, "House of Cards" starring Kevin Spacey. Watch it.

I don't like anything even remotely politics based, it bores me, but I'm three episodes into this first season, and I'm mad that I have to stop watching because the Sharks play in 15 minutes. It's fighting phenomenal.

  • Hmm. Will have to check it out. Don't have netflix so I'll have to dl it.

  • This video just made my day.

    Play

Unbelievable Little Kid Does a Trick Shot ...

Amazing shots from a kid (Titus) between 18 and 24 months old. He began shooting baskets shortly after learning to walk, we started filming some, and then got totally carried away. This is the trick shot video that makes other trick shot videos look like a bunch of old guys who should have something better to do -- like retire, turn up their pacemakers, or join an assisted living facility. Soundtrack is original.

I haven't checked that one out. It's on Fox, so it's either bad, or it's good and will be canceled soon.

Sounds about right. At least netflix picked up AD and they let Fringe go on way past when the ratings say it should have been canceled.

Yeah, Fox is really bad when it comes to that. Firefly and AD are the poster children for that charity.

I was really excited for this show...should have known better than to put much faith in Network TV though. Its about a serial killer who inspires a 'cult' of people to do his bidding and carry out murders and such in the spirit of Edgar Allen Poe. It sounds better than it is in all honesty. The fact is that no network TV seems to really even put forth an honest effort to compete with cable/premium/Netflix.

"House Of Cards" was VERY good. Keven Spacey is golden the entire time. Its a pretty grim take on DC and politics in general and no character in the show is all that likable for who they are but for some reason I couldn't stop watching. David Fincher produced it and directed the first two episodes (the best two of the season) and it has his m.o. all over it. I give Netflix credit for releasing all 13 eps at once. They know (since they are the reason for it) that we are being conditioned to binge watch and they fed this show to us they way we want it.

My other recommendation while I'm at it is "The Americans" on FX. The series premiered last week. Phenomenal. Its about Russian spies implanted in the Reagan era US and the counter intelligence agents who seek them out. Kerri Russel plays the main spy and her role gets pretty intense from the start. It may come off as trying to be a Homeland type show but its refreshing to see similar themes played out without all the technology of modern day getting in the way. Its old school espionage. I'm really looking forward to seeing what this show brings.

With shows like these two (not to mention Homeland, Boardwalk, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, The Killing) out there I think I'm giving up on basic cable television.

The fact that Netflix outbid a lot of TV channels for this show is a huge turning point for the future of shows. I really hope this goes well for Netflix, business-wise, so we can usurp the monopoly that network TV has.

I was gonna watch it, but completely forgot about it until this thread.

I love politics, hopefully I still like it.

I'm not sure why, but I seem to really enjoy things Spacey is in.

The following is very good. I have been watching and they just keep coming up with creative twists without making them seem too contrived.

I am excited to see the Americans, they are saved on my DVR.

  • Finished the first season of House of Cards. That was really good, and as always when I finish a season of a TV show on Netflix, I'm now mad that there isn't another one to watch immediately.

Also, RIP Community. The new show runners ruined it.

LOL. I was thinking of you when they were using that laugh track during "Abed TV" or whatever it was called.

Hope you gave him shit for it. Every time I watch I think Harvey looks like Jason Segal and Mike looks like Dennis from Always Sunny. Makes me laugh at the beginning of every episode.

I've been waiting for Suits to pop up on Netflix streaming or Amazon Prime. No such luck yet.

Does it follow the formula of most of USA's shows? A (insert person with special abilities) works as a consultant for (insert random law enforcement agency) and helps solve problems through unconventional means? Not saying that's a bad thing, because it worked for Monk. And Psych. And White Collar. And Burn Notice. Fun shows, nothing amazing or groundbreaking, but highly enjoyable.

Yup. Hence why I said pretty good. Played out formula, but I think they execute it better than most. I compared it to House to a bunch of people for the same reason. Season 1 is very much each episode has its own independent story, but season 2 changes to an actual season long story.
