Thinking the same thing, Illinois could open up as well, there are also rumors of jimbo bailing

They aren't firing Beckman after one year. Illinois is still paying Zook, Weber and someone else. I'm not sure they want to add a fourth.

I think Jimbo is gone from FSU, JMO.

I think the pencil neck kinda mentioned something about that in one of his posts. It is interesting that we think it is going to be a tough couple of years. Imagine if you had to stick with a coach that sucks!

  • When the chips are down, honor among fellow coaches turns into a wild card. Few chose to play the card. The chips are now much lower at Cal, USC and Illinois.

Too bad, Tedford is a good coach.

He was not put in a good position to win, their facilities and the situation around that is awful. Mix that with tougher academic standards than many conference opponents and it's a tough job the past few years.

Cal has a lot of potential as a program though, and once those new facilities get built recruiting will pick back up. The next coach should be successful IMO, as long as they get a decent coach.

‏@Cordale10 Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS

What? I thought Tedford had a great reputation as a coach?

    Did I miss something?

He always had the talent. An argument could be made that he is one of the top three coaches to do less with more - talent wise.

  • I didn't realize he had as highly rated players on the team as he did. They've looked outmanned the last two years.

Why is he so well respected if he's been so bad lately?

  • BTW... nice job Fortt. Way to pick a winner.

  • He's getting a degree from one of the most prestigious universities in the nation. He could've done worse.

Let's be honest, he didn't go there to get a degree from Cal. Fortt angers me more so than Redd because he ran his mouth after he left. If you are going to leave, fine, but at least show some class. Brown showed class, Fera showed class, even Redd kept his mouth shut... Fortt did not.

    getmyjive11

  • Sure he didn't, but neither did Redd. I don't hold it against either one for leaving now that I've had time to think about it, but saying Fortt made a bad decision by transferring to Cal is premature. If he graduates, he didn't lose one bit. Penn State is a great school, no doubt about it, but Cal is a better school. He wasn't good enough to cut it at PSU, so it's not likely that he'll cut it in the League. He'll have to use that degree later in life, more likely than not IMO, so he didn't make a bad decision. Whether he made it by accident or made it for the wrong reasons, he still didn't pick a loser by going to Cal.

The only guy who really made a mistake IMO was Brown. OU is a good school and is improving, but it's not the caliber of Penn State and he wasn't featured there and didn't win a title. I don't know what he got there that he wouldn't have gotten here. Same could be said about Redd, but he's still getting a good education so I guess that's personal preference.

  • I don't think it is accurate to say he couldn't make it at PSU on the field. He saw a lot of playing time. Some players take awhile to mature in college. Clay Matthews is a good example. Anyway, I agree that Cal is a great school but so is PSU. Considering we are talking about an undergraduate degree then I would say all things considered, his best choice for future prospects both for the NFL and education would have probably been PSU. I don't blame him for leaving though. I think only the extraordinary individuals seemed to want to tackle this particular challenge. It speaks more good for those who stayed than ill of those who left in my opinion. But I do think his potential as a football player would have been better realized at Penn State.

True, he did get PT. However he wasn't the star that he thought he was/would be here, and IMO he won't be at Cal either unless he gets rid of the "Me" attitude. JMO there though.

About the education, it is certainly not a knock on PSU to say that Cal is a better school. We are a very good school, but Cal is better IMO.

I agree with the rest of your post though. It took something special for the other kids to stay that you can't coach. Gutsy is the only word I can think of, but I don't think it does them justice. I love this team, more than any other team I have had the pleasure of rooting for, even the 2011 Texas Rangers who I will remember forever. I will tell my kids stories about this team and players like Mauti, Zordich, Hodges, Hill, etc.

Brown is graduating with a PSU degree, not Oklahoma.

EDIT: And just to clarify, my issue with Fortt has nothing to do with him transferring, it has to do with him running his mouth after he ran away. Redd I don't like because he was a leader, Fortt I have an issue with because he talked sh!t, everyone else I couldn't care less.

    Whoops, you're right.

Guess I don't have a problem with any of them.
