Too bad, Tedford is a good coach.
He was not put in a good position to win, their facilities and the situation around that is awful. Mix that with tougher academic standards than many conference opponents and it's a tough job the past few years.
Cal has a lot of potential as a program though, and once those new facilities get built recruiting will pick back up. The next coach should be successful IMO, as long as they get a decent coach.

I don't think it is accurate to say he couldn't make it at PSU on the field. He saw a lot of playing time. Some players take awhile to mature in college. Clay Matthews is a good example. Anyway, I agree that Cal is a great school but so is PSU. Considering we are talking about an undergraduate degree then I would say all things considered, his best choice for future prospects both for the NFL and education would have probably been PSU. I don't blame him for leaving though. I think only the extraordinary individuals seemed to want to tackle this particular challenge. It speaks more good for those who stayed than ill of those who left in my opinion. But I do think his potential as a football player would have been better realized at Penn State.

Sure he didn't, but neither did Redd. I don't hold it against either one for leaving now that I've had time to think about it, but saying Fortt made a bad decision by transferring to Cal is premature. If he graduates, he didn't lose one bit. Penn State is a great school, no doubt about it, but Cal is a better school. He wasn't good enough to cut it at PSU, so it's not likely that he'll cut it in the League. He'll have to use that degree later in life, more likely than not IMO, so he didn't make a bad decision. Whether he made it by accident or made it for the wrong reasons, he still didn't pick a loser by going to Cal.
The only guy who really made a mistake IMO was Brown. OU is a good school and is improving, but it's not the caliber of Penn State and he wasn't featured there and didn't win a title. I don't know what he got there that he wouldn't have gotten here. Same could be said about Redd, but he's still getting a good education so I guess that's personal preference.

Brown is graduating with a PSU degree, not Oklahoma.
EDIT: And just to clarify, my issue with Fortt has nothing to do with him transferring, it has to do with him running his mouth after he ran away. Redd I don't like because he was a leader, Fortt I have an issue with because he talked sh!t, everyone else I couldn't care less.

OT: Tedford Out at Cal
