David Villa just laced one of the finest strikes the world has ever seen.

Unbelievable!!! I couldn't strike it that well in my dreams, I'd still blast it 10 yards over from there.

Ray is one of the most entertaining announcers to listen to, he keeps me laughing throughout the broadcast. He doesn't make sense half the time but i find it funny.

The best thing is that there's a 10-15 second pause after every goal...you can tell Ray is figuring out what he's about to say. Then, he comes in at the top of his lungs, 3 octaves above his normal tone, with some rant full of 'superlatives', 'magisterials',
    'magicals', and 'glorrrrrrious.'

Looks like ManU's defense is already on the ropes. Rafael (dislocated shoulder) out 10 weeks, Ferdinand (strained hamstring) out 6 weeks, and Vidic (calf) out 3-4 weeks. Costly Round 1 W for the Devils.

  • In lieu of Arsenal losing their captain, here is one of the more memorable goals by Cesc that I saw, esp since it was against Sp*rs.

That's a great run. Cesc should fit in nicely with the Catalans, but expectations will be extraordinary.

On a serious note, just released that J.O. Mikel's father was abducted in Nigeria.

Agreed. I saw that, terrible hopefully he gets back safely.

Anyone looking to catch some live action Man City are taking on newly-promoted Swansea City right now on ESPN2. Swansea are keeping the ball very nicely right now and Man City don't look very good at all, which makes me all happy.

City looking much better since they've started the high pressure. Will be interesting to see is some of that pace that Swansea has can hurt City on the counter now.

Btw, as a Man Utd fan...I think Silva is the best playmaker in the Premiership. He's just disgustingly good. I'd rather him than Wesley Snijder.

Yes, but Swansea's keeper is having a hell of a half right now...and should also be thanking the woodwork twice now. Citeh turned it on after about 15 minutes, should have at least one in the back of the net by now.

I've liked Silva since I started following soccer back in '06, he has always been quality and it shows pretty much week in and week out at City. He is also a couple years younger than Sneijder IIRC.

  • Great half from Vorm, but Swansea had a spell of luck toward the end of the half as well. I think we see Aguero at the 60 minute mark. Toure is a horrid finisher, and Dzeko is underwhelming. It's a scary thought what City COULD be with Tevez, Kun, and Silva up top...but that will never happen.

I caught the first half at work and then was getting updates via twitter during the second while on the bus ride home, sounded like Citeh dominated and Aguero made an immediate impact. Scary thoughts if he and Silva start clicking all season long.

    Andrew Dzurita

  • His first goal was on a platter from Richards, but he made a brilliant pass off the end line for Silvas goal, and finished with an awesome 25 yd strike in stoppage time. I think, if they bring in Nasri, they will look to ship out potentially both Tevez and Balotelli and be content to play with Kun alone up front. One of Johnson/Milner will probably go too. Despite allowing 4, the Swansea keeper was even more heroic in the 2nd half. Easily could've been 7/8-0.

  • Not sure if anyone saw this but gotta side with the players on this one, its a clear cut request that is very understandable. I'm actually surprised they played without this in their union contract up until now.

This has been on the horizon for a while. One of the scariest realities facing world sport would be the financial crash of multiple high profile clubs due to overwhelming debt. Despite huge revenues elsewhere, Bundesliga is the only truly healthy league in Europe right now.

  • Just started following the EPL. Why isn't Suarez starting for Liverpool, the team played a lot better when he was in? Cahill (always been a big fan of his in the WC) is really missing some chances for Everton right now....

Had Liverpool been at home he would have, on the road they went with a more conservative line-up...which wasn't necessary because Arsenal were fielding half of their reserve side by the end. it's so frustrating supporting a team who has money to spend but doesn't.

Suarez played heavy minutes in the Copa tournament for Uruguay. They're allowing him to slowly gain his fitness level back after his month long break following the tourney. He started last week, and as Andrew said, was rested as part of a more conservative lineup on the road this week. He was slated for 30 minutes, and made an impact in that time. He's definitely a weekly starter once 100% fit.

Hey Andrew, like how we swiped Mata from under your nose by only adding $3-4 million on the price tag? Wenger belongs running a non profit organization, not a big time football club.

Everton were a struggle to watch outside Barkley and Baines. Beckford looks a mess and Cahill lacked finishing quality.

Now, the Blues need to actually come through with 3 points.

  • Thanks for the answer on Suarez guys. Barkley was definitely the bright spot for Everton today, but a bad way to start the season for them. Lazy work in the back put Chelsea in a hole real quick.

  • Alex should sit himself after that. Frankly, it's what we deserve for sleep walking our way through the first half hour of matches.

  • Couldn't find the USMNT thread, figured I'd just bump this. USMNT playing Slovenia right now on ESPN2/3.

USMNT vs. Slovenia lineup: Howard; Cherundolo, Goodson, Bocanegra, Chandler; Johnson, Beckerman, Bradley, Dempsey; Buddle, Altidore.

Finally a 4-4-2 under Jurgen, hopefully this frees up Jozy.
