OT: Soccer guys...

  • Bob was a nice enough guy but there had to be a change made, I'm surprised it took over a month after the Gold Cup final for this to surface.

IIRC, Klinsman wasn't hired in the past because he wanted total control and Gulati wouldn't give it to him (ability to change the entire system from the youth teams to the senior team).

  • If it's Klinsman, I will pull a Drogba on my kitchen floor.

  • If it's Klinsmen I will love it.

I think it's funny that Bruce had about 100 feets of root under his ass, but Bradley wasn't really around too long.

Biggest problem we have is that we can't get our top athletes to play soccer. Our "farm" system may need rebuilt, but what can they do differently?

If winning was easy even losers would do it.

Thats what Klinsmen wanted to change last time around, his plan was to revamp the way everything was done at the national team level in all aspects. It is going to take a hell of a long time, but the USSF has to start from the ground up, which Klinsmen will do if given the chance. I'd love to see it.

  • Whoa... Real Madrid just signed a 7 year old Argentinian kid, Leonel Angel Coira. The next Messi???

Real Madrid has signed a 7-year-old soccer prodigy from Argentina who goes by the name Leo -- just like Lionel Messi.

I saw that. Never too early to get these kids into an Academy. :)

    Yep, take note USA.

My coach for my premier team growing up was from Portugal and had some connections and was able to bring us to a Portuguese youth soccer academy for like 5 days. We played with an age group (I want to say) 2 years younger than us, and they were doing circles around us, as they train hard every day. Two years difference in age that young is really a big difference too.

  • To me successful soccer in the US must be like the rest of the world.
We must have MANY MANY pro/pro am teams/leagues starting at age 17 or 18......................
kind of like baseball (minor leagues) in the US.

Still not offered for Comcast unless you get yet another sports package. It's on like channel 1500 something?

  • 1654 for Uverse. I about fell out of my chair when I figured out they were carrying it. Just in time for EPL season.

  • I'm watching the Bundesliga match on GolTV right now. Schalke has a 17 yr old kid named Baumjohan who is going to be special. Jermaine Jones on the pitch too.

  • First day of the Premier League! Thoughts on who might take it? I saw Liverpool was 11/1 to win the league outright, might put some dough on that though they drew 1-1 today. I hope Arsenal don't screw up again at Newcastle in a half hour (no Cesc or Nasri either)

Heading home now to watch Arsenal/NC. ManU are likely to repeat IMO.

Hope you didn't make special plans to catch that Arsenal match, pretty underwhelming stuff. The lack of Cesc and Nasri was felt.

Oh, and also, Joey Barton. The worst.

Oh that Joey Barton. He's the instant aggrevation to any boring match. His anger was somewhat warranted after the stomp from Song.

Almost put some money down on liverpool when I saw the odds, but as a fan, it hasn't worked out well for me in the past and hurts twice as bad... they should improve this year but not putting down money is probably the best cal, and that decision was helped after a rather depressing second half today

    11psu11

  • Lousy 1st half but promising 2nd half from Chelsea. Questionable non call on Lampard in the box, but they had enough alternate opportunities to capitalize on. Kalou needs to be dealt. Bosingwa looked very good. Better from Torres.

Good start for ManU...should win comfortably.

    4 1/2 hours til Clasico...

No doubt, Song is quietly a stupid player. Two years ago was his best season no doubt, last season started the dumb fouls. He collects cards like they are going to gain him extra money.

As for Chelsea, my friends who are Blues supporters texted me this morning basically saying pay Spurs as much as they want for Modric after that performance..do you share that opinion as well?

    Andrew Dzurita

  • OK I spoke too soon. De Gea needs to get his head on straight.

  • De Gea had a nice first save, but that goal WBA just scored should have been saved. Yes, he is young but that it is a saved that he is expected to make.

We need a midfield orchestrator for sure. IMO, Wes Sneijder is still a better option than Modric, but he'd want to play more in Lampards role, so I'm not sure it's a personality fit. I also would've rather seen them chase David Silva last year. At this point, Modric is the best available and he desires Chelsea, but he's not a $30 million pound player in my eyes. It's not my money, but that's too much. They could offer Benyaoun in the deal or try to get Mata instead. Regardless, any deal will cause friction with Lampard. Ramires doesn't deserve diminished minutes, and Mikel is our only solid defensive midfield option with Essien out. The minutes will come from Lamps, but that's reality.

Nani has squandered two slam dunks too.

  • Agreed, the second one more so than the first I thought should have gone in. Young looks to be a great signing, he has been linking well with everyone. I like the fight from WBA though, under Hodgeson they have been a quality side.
