I think they could take Real Madrid to be honest. The Galacticos are a bit overrated. But no one is beating Barca when they play well until they break up Xavi and Iniesta. I now consider those two the best players in the world, after watching Messi struggle in the Copa. His goals are clearly a function of the freedom that;s granted to him by the central midfield pairing. When it's all said and done, I think we're going to look back and yes, be amazed by Messi, but will give greater credit to Xavi and Iniesta.
I don't care who Utd purchases...so long as Barca has those 3, and especially those 2 controlling the flow of a match, they won't be better. If you cloned Pirlo, and paired the two clones together, that's about the closest I can think you can get.

It's a pretty freakin loaded squad. Don't forget about Macheda, who I think will join the rotation upfront with Chicharito.
They have a 2nd team that could conceivably qualify for the Champion's League.
RB - Fabio/Rafael LB - Evra/DeLat CB - Rio/Phil Jones CB - Vidic/Johnny Evans DM - Carrick/Gibson CM - Fletcher/Giggs LM - Young/Park RM - Valencia/Nani AM - Rooney/Anderson CF - Chicharito/Macheda

Anyone else been watching Copa America? Its only broadcast in spanish by me but there have been some pretty exciting games and I usually have it on in the background. Now the quarter finals are getting underway, Argentina-Uraguay tomorrow should be an awesome match with big names. Its amazing how good Messi can be for Barca, but so underwhelming for his country, especially with all of the attacking talent he has around him in Di Maria, Higuain, Aguero, and Tevez. Just goes to show how the talented Barca midfield makes that much of a difference.

Yes I have. I don't care that it's in Spanish.
Honestly, Tevez is a waste for Argentina. He weighs down the side and shouldn't be starting. Aguero is in good form and meshes better with Messi's style. Couple them with Higuain, and that's their best combo. One other plus for Argentina...Romero has had a good tourney in goal.
I know they struggled until the last game, but I expect more fireworks from the Neymar/Pato duo in the knockout phase. I LOVE Patos game, and Neymar is the next big thing whenever he moves overseas. Santos has played really well for Brazil as well. Shoul be a fun week.
In other news, it now appears as though Nike could step in to increase their licensing agreement with Sneijder to support the wage difference between he an ManU. Also, Jozy Altidore is headed to Holland.

Bradley got put in a poor situation at Villa, they had just signed a player who played his position and he couldn't break through the ranks. Not sure when his M'Gladbach contract is up but I can definitely see him going to either a better German team or an English team and contributing. With a fresh start for Jozy, you can only hope it will help him. With Adu, he really didn't do much on his 2nd Tier Turkish club, so IDK what to make of his two appearances during the Gold Cup. Hoping he can go back to a team in a top division somewhere in Europe, but either way he should be seeing regular time somewhere next season if he continues the form he showed during those two games.

Agree with most of this except the freddy part. I saw a couple of his matches in turkey and he was pretty good. I was actually hoping he'd get called up for Gold cup based on his play there.
His contract with Benfica is like a huge weight. They won't just cut him, and they demand loan teams pay his full salary. They also want a legit transfer fee.
If he was on a free, I think there would be a lot of interest in him. Upper level clubs in holland, France as an example. I mean, hes better than sacha, jozy, Agudelo, Bedoya etc.

WOW Argentina and Brazil both knocked out in the quarterfinals, didn't see that one coming. Can't believe Peru made it through to the semis either, I didn't read anything that suggested they had the squad to do it. Its been a fun tournament, lacking in the goal department a bit but other than that a good watch.

Guess villarreal wasn't willing to deal rossi. Have fun on the bench Pedro.
I don't actually know why they are bringing in Fabregas. They can't start all 3 of Xavi, Iniesta, and Cesc. Not unless they move Busquets, and his defensive work is integral to the tiki-taka. Imo they are better off waiting a couple years, when Xavi is ready to take a smaller role.
That said, I like what man utd is doing. Against Barca, you accept you lose possession, by a large amount. By getting Ashley Young and hopefully Sneijder, they get a much better cutting edge on the fly. That team might be over of the few that actually forces barca to back off it's high pressure somewhat, because of it's pace and skill in thee open field, and ability to maintain possession under pressure. With all due respect to valencia, giggs, and Carrick - they were overwhelmed by that high pressure. Young and sneijder won't be.

ManU needs Sneijder. Their wings are very strong (I think Young will be a special player as a left wing), but central midfield of Giggs/Anderson/Carrick is lacking. RB, GK, and depth on their front line are also issues. Berbatov is becoming an issue, and if they're forced to dump him...are Macheda and Owen enough as the 2nd unit up front? They also need to get the Fabio/Rafael/Evans deal straightened out. They're weak on that side. Finally, is De Gea ready for big time Euro ball? He would be the least of those 3 issues IMO, but it's still a valid point. Bottom line...if they don't get Sneijder, they're in trouble in central midfield. If they do and De Gea pans out, they can compete with Barca. At the very least, they'd be heavy favorites in the EPL. Chelsea looks awful and needs major overhaul. Arsenal is dropping. City isn't cohesive. Spurs aren't good enough defensively. Liverpool, if Gerrard is fit, would be the main competition...not including any new transfers of course.
BTW, I agree on Fabregas. I've always found him overrated, but he's a Barca academy guy and wildly popular with the other Spaniards on the team. I'm sure he'd manage to fit in well...even if it's as a super sub or fill in to spot Xavi more rest.
