OT: Small tidbit on Maybin from last nights game ...

  • Jets winners and losers against the Giants

The Jets defeated the Giants 17-3 Monday night in their preseason matchup with their city rivals. Neither team looked impressive in the ugly game. Here is who I see as the winners and losers from the game:

    WINNERS

    1. DAVID HARRIS – He might be the most underrated defensive player in football. Harris was all over the field against the Giants. He was in Eli Manning's face, forcing a bad throw that Jim Leonhard picked off. Then, he intercepted Manning himself. He also delivered some crushing hits.

    2. NICK FOLK – He won the Jets kicking battle with a solid performance against the Giants. He made the one field goal he attempted, and boomed a few kickoffs. It was a close competition with Nick Novak, but Folk became the clear choice.

    3. AARON MAYBIN – The Bills castoff had some nice moments against the Giants, and saw some early playing time with the starters. Maybin looks extremely quick, chasing plays down from behind and pressuring Manning. This may turn out to be smart move by the Jets. Maybin looks relaxed in his reduced role with the Jets.

  • Rex Ryan has made me hate the jets but I'm cool with maybin playing well for them

  • Really, this is what he should be... a pass rush specialist. He can hang on in the league for awhile if he gets some success with it.

  • He had 2 nice plays that stood out in my mind:
-right before the half he showed great backside pursuit where he chased down Giants RB Danny Ware from behind on a screen-pass
-3rd-qtr he took an outside pass-rush and forced David Carr to step up in the pocket and rush a weak and incomplete shovel pass

I watched him closely, and everytime Maybin was in the game on obvious passing downs, he went with a pure-speed rush to the outside, lining up at both right and left DE. Again, good OT's will eat that up but atleast Rex is giving him a chance to showcase his ability. Hopefully he can stick with the Jets as a reserve/special teams player.

  • J e t s jets jets jets!
Think this will turn out be one of our better acquisitions along with Plax and the rookie Kerly out of TCU..
One thing we didn’t pickup in the offseason was a pass rusher.. Maybin can turn out to be that guy.. He got on the field early last night and was all over the field..

I think you guys are overestimating things here.

"Coach Rex Ryan said that Aaron Maybin "is going to have to do more" if he wants to make the final roster.

The 2009 No. 11 overall pick hasn't done enough during his two weeks with the Jets. Maybin is behind a former undrafted free agent in Jamaal Westerman and a former CFL player in Garrett McIntyre. Tonight's preseason finale is his last chance to make an impression."

  • I read that yesterday and was shocked..
They praised him for two weeks.. And nothing but articles about well he was doing
Was probably just trying to give his confidence a boost..

Maybe just amazed that he showed something during the preseason, who knows. I'm very doubtful that Maybin will end up doing much of anything for any team.

    Maybin waived today.

You're right. He survived "final" cuts, but the Jets just signed another QB and waived AM to make room on the roster. Too bad.

Jets waive Maybin; bring back QB O’Connell

One day after making the Jets final roster, LB Aaron Maybin was waived by the Jets.

  • Ah, geez. Sucks Aaron made the initial roster cuts but then was waived after the fact when the team picked up a QB. I'm sure Aaron will find a home somewhere. Personally, I could see him fitting in well in Miami and their defensive scheme.
