OT: Ref Cam

  • For Rugby, don't think it would work well for football, but interesting.

    RUGBY HQ - REFCAM

Here is the Rugby HQ special on the RefCam, a great new initiative to take fans closer to the game, by strapping an HD camera to the referee. This has shown ...

  • Assuming they mounted it to be the officials line of sight, it would be great. I'm thinking about the OSU game a few years back where their TE dropped the ball and the ref appeared to be looking right at the play, yet he called it a catch. There is a picture floating around out there of the drop and the ref looking right at it. If he had a camera mounted in his line of sight, he would have had a hard time explaining how he didn't see the ball hit the ground. His only excuse would be that he had his eyes closed.

That's another incident where I find that way too many Penn State fans are wearing tin foil hats. Do you honestly believe that if a ref wanted to screw over Penn State, THAT would be the way that he would choose to do so? Hell no, he'd simply call a few holding penalties at an opportune time. The only logical reason for that call was that the ref missed it. Guess what? Sometimes they make mistakes. It's not a conspiracy against PSU - it's a blown call.

  • Before they moved the Umpires to the offensive backfield, that would have been an awesome cam for NFL games. I doubt that they would do such a thing in college, but the NFL would be all over it.

  • Didn't they try this in the XFL in the 90's?

I'm sure you've seen the picture. I wasn't claiming a conspiracy as much as I was pointing out how hard it would have been for the ref to explain away missing the call. It was the best example I could think of.

Sometimes? Sometimes replacement NFL referees make mistakes, but BIG refs it is much more than sometimes, it is expected. I dont know about conspiracy, but BIG refs (and booth officials) have to be amongst the most incompetent in the country. I have never been so baffled but yet not surprised after clear evidence of the Nebraska touchdown.

I dont know if its the recruiting or the training process or what with BIG officials, but its putrid.

You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game, life or football-the margin for error is so small. -Pacino
