OT: Peyton Manning

  • Was it possible for another team to claim Manning before he entered free agency?

Would that have meant that the team that claimed him would pick up his existing contract, including that roster bonus?

As for guesses to where he lands ... Miami seems to be consensus favorite, but I wouldn't be shocked if he went to play for the Titans.

If winning was easy even losers would do it.

  • Miami is the 3rd maybe 4th team in that division makes no sense to go there.... KC / Denver / San Fran / Texans / Baltimore all make more sense.... He goes there forget about a comeback it's for the $

  • No, he's a vested veteran, so he's not subject to waivers.

Miami does seem to be the favorite. But honestly, when things like this happen, it seems like the initial favorites don't often get the player/coach. I'd like to see him end up at Arizona.

  • 49ers have the best defense and are miserable at QB. and if you could get two or three more years out of PM then its worth upsetting alex smith

  • KC would be great except Romeo Crennel is the coach... Jamal Charles, Dwayne Bowe, decent defense. I guess Crennel is better than Caldwell, maybe.

I think the 49ers would be best if he wanted to win ... the only thing is I don't think Peyton would consider going to the NFC, where brother Eli plays. JMO.

I don't think that matters all that much, especially if he's in a division where he's going to play against Eli once every 3 years (outside of playoffs). San Fran is definitely intriguing.

he isn't going to let Eli be the last of the Manning brothers to get a super bowl ring

I think it'd be fun to have them square off twice a year, but I guess that's just me.

I don't know why anybody would ever want to play there, ever, but Washington needs a QB.

Not sure he has the final say in that.

You put Peyton Manning on Miami, and they're no longer the 3rd/4th best team in the division. IMO...that's where he'll land. Who has the most cap space? Denver of course. Tebow is such a catch 22 for that franchise.

  • "ESPN's Adam Schefter suggested Friday that the media "circus" that ensued after Peyton Manning touched down in Miami following his release by the Colts may have affected his outlook on playing for the Dolphins.

PFT's Mike Florio called it a "South Florida frenzy." Citing people who know Manning, Schefter reported that the helicopter chases were especially "jarring" for a person who is unaccustomed to over-the-top, paparazzi-style media coverage. Manning probably hasn't ruled out the Dolphins yet, but this is a factor he'll have to consider when contemplating whether to play for the Fins."

  • I think Miami is the most likely destination right now. Washington isn't too far behind either. I've heard the Broncos in the mix too but I have a hard time believing that happens, even though I'd be all for it. (I'm a Broncos fan)

With Peyton, Miami might move all the way up to 2nd in the AFC East. Not sure he wants to get his ass kicked twice a year for the rest of his career by Brady.

    Well, looking at this realistically...

He wants to go AFC, some place warm (or a dome team), ready to contend, and a place which also has the ability to sign Wayne.

IMO...Miami, Houston, and KC are the best candidates...in that order. He's absolutely not going to WSH, NYJ, SF, or BAL. Denver has the most money, but I don't think that will happen either. Tennessee lacks too many pieces to win immediately.

Hard to feel bad for you when you're going to replace one franchise QB with another. Call me when you haven't made the playoffs for 12 years straight.

biggrin And Bills puts it all in perspective.

I will say, nothing is a lock, even Luck. So much up in the air now, and there truly is no replacing Peyton Manning. He built that franchise.

If I were a colts fan, I would've wanted us to trade the pick.... Peyton is a sure thing, he will be dominant again, and you could
Improve the team so much if they did that

No such thing as a sure thing with that neck. At this point, we had to rebuild. That team is bloated and unbalanced, and either old or too young. There's so little talent on the team. You release Manning anyways, no one was going to trade before the deadline. That'd be stupid, they had all the leverage. Plus I let Manning pick his team, we just hit the restart button on our franchise.

    MTayl72

  • Luck is as close to a sure thing as you can get. He's way ahead of guys like Stafford and Bradford when they came out - and I'm a fan of Bradford.

Manning, if healthy, probably has 4-5 more good years. Combine that with the cost, and Luck is the better choice (he'll require about 25 million over 5 years vs. 28 million plus salary for this one year for Manning).

No doubt they'd get a king's ransom for the pick. But there's a reason...franchise QB's are worth a king's ransom. It's better to just draft Luck and build around him in the future than build the rest of the team now and hope for a franchise QB later on.

If he has receivers that can catch, Peyton will be fine. Garcon killed him.

Peyton with Larry Fitzgerald would be a monster combination.
