As far as your question about a case to put your Paterno ball in, there are a couple of options or you can customize your own thing. You can order glass cases online that have a Nittany Lion etched on it already. There are also sellers on ebay that have some Paterno name plates with his record and things of that nature on it. You could make your own set up that way. There is also a Joe Paterno football stand that I've seen that you could set it on, although I understand you wanting it to be protected. Maybe you could put in on a stand in a case. Those are some options that I know of.

My grandfather was from Pittsburgh, back in the 50-60's he actually did some handyman type work for the family the owned the Pirates, either at that time, or possibly they had already sold them I am not sure..., believe it was the Dreyfuss family... When I was about 6-7 and really getting into baseball and collecting cards, etc he handed me a grocery bag full of baseballs one time... I noticed they were signed, but didn't pay much attention... took them home, and pulled one or two out and my friends and I played catch, bounced grounders on the dirt roads in front of our houses, etc... the rest of the bag went into the basement, and I forgot about it for a few years... Couple years later, when I was maybe 11-12, I was seriously into collecting baseball cards, and my grandfather asked me "What ever happened to those balls I gave you that were signed by Honus Wagner and Pie Traynor?"... I about had a heart attack... Anyway, I found the remaining balls and in the bag were not one, but two Honus Wagner signed balls... one right in the middle of the "sweet spot", and they each also had multiple other signatures... One ball was a team ball from about 1959, that includes Roberto Clemente, Elroy Face, Bob Friend, all kinds of great Pirates like that... Another was a Ralph Kiner that was personally inscribed to "Patsy"... Anyway.. for some insane reason, I sold one of the Wagners shortly after college for a couple grand to take a vacation... but still proudly display the Clemente and the Wagner that is on the sweet spot... there was no Pie Traynor, so I have always assumed that one got trashed playing ball with it in front of my house... god only knows what other signatures were lost on the balls I used... and god only knows why my parents let me play with him, and also the Kiner ball has my "signature", in red pen from when I was about 6 years old... I guess I wanted to sign a ball too...

That's the truth. A lot of my signatures would have no way of validating, but I know they're real and since I have no intention of selling them what difference does it matter. I still remember crawling under people at a celeb golf tournament to get Marino's autograph when I was 5. Haven't stopped collecting stuff since.
