I thought he was trying to stop Malkin from lifting the puck over his pad.... I could be wrong... but he has been much better once we got Grossmann we have been pretty solid

    You're welcome.

  • My take on this.

Flyers have one of the best fan bases in all of Hockey. They don't have a Toronto or Montreals fan base, but they have a top five fan base.

It is true what they say about the Pens. They have relied on generational talents. In 80's they sucked. They pick up Mario Lemieux a few years later they get a steal with Jaromir Jagr. Two top ten scorers! Then after the Mario era they sucked at the turn of the century. They pick up Evgeni Malkin second only to Ovechkin in the draft. Then they get Crosby. Its a cycle that will repeat itself.
The main problem with Pitt is that their fanbase is not that great. There are some Pens fans on here probably, I am not saying they are bad fans, but overall the fanbase isn't that great. Players want to sign with teams that symbolize hockey. The Flyers are one of the most recognizable franchises. Most recently you have Briere and Jagr who both opted to sign with the Flyers.

You do realize Jagr signed with the Flyers because it was his only offer. Both Detroit and Pittsburgh pulled their offers, and Jagr, only had 1 choice, if he wanted to play in the NHL.

the Penguin franchise is obviously doing something right. The last 2 years, they have gotten a grand total of 15 games out Crosby, and lost the division by 1 pt last year, and are 1 pt behind the Rangers this year.

I'm not going to say the Flyers are a bad fanbase, or a bad franchise. If the Pens ever leave Pittsburgh, I'll seriously think about making an allegiance with the Flyers, but having said that, it finally looks like the Pens are stay in Steel City.

  • Kind of like they were a stay after Mario? The Flyers sell out no matter what. Even when we had one of the worst years in franchise history, we sold out. We are a staple for all other expansion teams, as we are seventh all time in wins. The original six teams being ahead of us of course. Also since expansion we have made the playoffs the most out of any team. 2 cup wins and that was followed by 6 cup appearances where we obviously lost. We would have had more than 2 cups if not for the loss of Lindbergh (RIP). Lindbergh could have been up there with Hasek, Roy, and Brodeur, he was that good! I would guarantee at least two more cups, had Lindbergh lived a full life.

Most important is that we don't rely on stocking talent via top five picks. We have a down year, well we go and buy some pieces and get better. That is the difference between the Flyers as a franchise and the Pens. We don't settle for mediocrity and pray for a miracle. Getting Briere, Pronger, Forsberg, Roenick, Talbot, etc are some recent acquisitions. Plus we are not afraid to take chances like getting rid of Carter and Richards.
This is proven by the fact that we have only had one no.1 overall pick. We had Lindros but that was via a monster trade, that I think was a success for the most part. Sure we didn't get a cup, but we didn't settle for mediocrity.

Man, you are off your frigin' rocker. The reason Pittsburgh has kept these great draft picks is that they are willing to work for less money. Why? Because they love Pittsburgh and the fans.

Philadelphia is a stink hole...when is the last time they won a most livable city award? Ah, NEVER! The fans are the most obnoxious on the planet. I feel sorry for any professional athlete on a Philadelphia team, because the city never appreciate them...if they win, that's cool; if they lose, they suck. I can't think of one professional Philly player the spent his entire career in Philly.

    Chew on that pal.

We don't count things like championships over here in Philly biggrin

It would help if you would actually win one every once in a while. biggrin.

Philly just isn't a championship city.

Lol, he made an idiotic statement and will not be back to back it up (because there athletes who have obviously). He doesn't realize it rarely happens anymore (see: Hines Ward trying to find somewhere to go even though he's a Steeler for life), but there were athletes who did it back in the day in Philly just like in the Burgh. He thinks because Mario did it, that's the end.

Why people can't have a rational Philly/Burgh discussion is beyond me. Both sides have people jump straight on their high horses, it's pathetic.

    Herp derp.

It's ok, there are plenty of great cities that aren't championship cities.

Flint, MI, Honolulu, HI, Jackson Hole, WY, El Paso, TX, Shreveport, LA. All fine towns.

PS: nothing personal Philly fans, just love pushing Philly buttons.

I love Jackson Hole and Honolulu, but I'm not so sure that I'd consider Flint a fine town. I've been there once, and it was a pretty downtrodden place.

Flint is one of the worst cities in America. So he had bright and sunny hawaii, laid back middle of nowhere wyoming and rundown hole in michigan. Perfect.

Tugnutt. Perfect name for a Pittsburgh Penguin.

I was still on an adrenaline high taking an exam the next day after that goal. Campus erupted at like 3:40 am when that goal was scored.
