OT: NHL Season

  • So Brent Burns is healthy . . . and now at forward. In two games playing wing he has two goals an an assist, and is an absolute beast on the forecheck and in the neutral zone. He also made a bet with our superstar of a rinkside reporter Brodie Brazil before our last game, which if he scored a goal, he would get his tie. He did just that, and then proceeded to collect on his bet live on TV after being named first star, during the post game interview on the bench. I can't find video of it, but if you have Gamecenter, you can see it there once the game is up.

In the meantime, you've all seen Burns' training camp Chewbacca mugshot by now, so here is a picture a fan took when they saw him in the concourse earlier this season when he was still out injured.

    How 'bout them Flyers!

What about them?? Got outplayed but Bryz stood on his head. They were bound to win a game against NJ sometime. Bryz was great for them in OT, they were completely dominated in that extra period and the Devils had some great chances, especially the 2 from Elias point blank

They were fortunate to win last night no doubt. Bryz looked good, which has always been a question mark this year and last. Hoping for a season saving trade...

Rags have given up. That is a team in shambles. On paper, the Nash deal looked good when it was done. Now, it looks terrible. Alot of NY's depth went in that deal.

Torts has to be on the firing line. Under his guidance, its where goal scorers go and die. Richards is terrible; Gaborik isn't that good ... His system is terrible for the Rags. If you were a high scoring guy, would you want to play for him?

Today's game easily could have been 6-0.

I absolutely despise Torts. This mess can't happen to a bigger asshat than him. The guy cries more than a teenage girl after a breakup.

Thought they would win the Cup before the season started, never been so glad to be wrong.

Beat some pretty good teams too in this streak.

    Hopefully Tanger is nothing serious.

Left up a lot of shots on goal and some juicy rebounds but guys in better position than I've seen in awhile with the Pens to clean up the garbage, and all that matters is goals. Even though he made some stupid plays and let up some rebounds, Vokoun overall looked real good though. Glad he got a win against possibly the best team in the East to help bring his confidence back up some.

7-0 now since we signed Eaton?!

You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game, life or football-the margin for error is so small. -Pacino

  • Really thought Boston was gonna put one in there late. Vokoun looking good after almost getting run out of town after that game against the Flyers.

  • Huge win. Who would have thought Vitale would score the game winner?

Team has really got things together. Still say we have some minor deals to be made, but nine wins in a row and most of them without Malkin is speaking volumes. I don't get the scratch of Despres though. We could have used him.

    Now, who? Washington?

  • Didn't the Pens have a big streak last year? They look nearly unbeatable right now..... Maybe peaking a little too early again.

Good thing for them is there are still 20 games left. Just like the hawks, they peaked early enough that even if they fall off a bit, they have plenty of time left in the season to get back to the next gear.

last year that gear got them driven face first into the ice...... you want to get hot last 2 weeks.... teams rarely recapture a big uptick or hold it

IIRC it was around this time last year. For some reason, I remember flipping between the NCAA tournament and a pens-flyers game on a Sunday afternoon. IIRC the Flyers beat the Pens in OT to end that streak.

The Stanley Cup playoffs are about luck of the draw in matchup as much as anything, IMO. Both the Flyers and Pens had some favorable matchups in 2008-10 when they advanced to the Finals those years. For example, the Pens were lucky to avoid the Bruins in 2009 after the Canes upset them in the second round, and the Flyers were lucky the Canadiens knocked the Pens out in 2010. The pens were unlucky to draw the Flyers last year, who then had the bad luck to face a NJ team that barely squeezed by FL in the first round.

I get what you're saying about peaking too soon and not being able to recapture the magic, but I still bet any GM would rather have the "problem" the Pens or Blackhwaks have.

I would trade records with them in a minute!!!!

My PSU FB got ban hammered, PSU MBB???? Eagles stunk.... Sixers.... Flyers.... and my hopes are pinned to the Phillies.

So I basically hope the league locks out and no one wins a title if I cannot hahahaha

IMHO the playoffs are all about how hot your goalie gets, but luck of the draw helps too.

The showed that Orpik finally went with a visor and I believe yesterday took a puck to the face. Good thing the visor was there, otherwise ...

  • Nice deal made for the Devils. Acquired Matt D'Agostini and a seventh in 2015 from the Blues for a conditional fourth or fifth in 2015. I wouldn't have minded Pittsburgh bringing in him for the third line.

Yeah, I like it. Can't hurt. Team looked much better last night. Marty had no rust, scored as many goals as he allowed last night. Loktionov being back certainly helped as well. Hope Zubs is back soon, they'll be fine going into stretch run and playoffs

Very lucky with the way that game played out. The Pens must have thought the game was a 7:30 start. That first period was some bad hockey.

Nice to see Shanahan protecting one of his former clubs. Nash's hit was worse than Lupul's. I think he has some explaining to do on that one.
