OT: NHL Playoffs Thread

  • Looking like Caps - Flyers next round. A lot of hockey to play yet but I like the Caps chances against the Rangers. How you feelin Shavismo, gotta think you guys should be able to get by either Florida or NJ

    I'm confident in the Flyers chances vs. either. I'd say the Flyers are a decent bit better than both. Like I said, if it's the Devils, I hope they stay dumb and keep Marty in. He's not a good goalie anymore. These have looked like the worst teams in the East, so that is good, but it doesn't mean much once they drop the puck.

    I hear ya, was hoping Ottawa would produce on their late run and drag out a few OT's, anything to wear a team out before the next series. I'm waiting for PSUDE to weigh in on the Caps - Rangers matchup but it's all talk until they actually play. Regular season doesn't mean anything even though the Caps split with the Rangers 2 games apiece

    I can't wait to watch that series. Capitals are playing better now than they've played any of the years they dominated the East. Rangers have the ultimate equalizer. Part of me wants Ovie to finally turn it on, but the other part doesn't want the chance of playing a hot Caps team with Ovie clicking.

    I think (hope) that will be the more exciting of the two series in the East.

    I'm terrible with picks because I have a hard time putting my personal bias aside, but I'll give my thoughts anyway.

    Preds over Yotes in 6. Rinne out-duels Smith in a low scoring series.

    Blues over Kings in 5. The Blues follow their game plan perf . . . . zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

    Rangers over Caps in 7. Rangers win this war of attrition, wearing out the Caps and winning game 7 easily.

    Flyers over Devils in 6. Flyers remember how to play D, and Bryz comes back to Earth after floating around the humangous big universe in round 1.

    Pretty close to mine except I'm in a pool and the rules are "you can only pick a team if you picked them in the first round" and I was the only one to pick the Caps, so I picked Caps in 7 instead of Rags. Figured if Caps won I'd be in first place, so I might as well go for it. I also gave the Kings an extra game and have Blues in 6.

    I don't think anyone likes a game where someone gives up 10 goals. But the up-tempo style is preferred by many to sit back and wait style. It is what it is.

    should have been a penalty. No way that should have been a goal, though. You can't just push the goalie across the goal-line.

    Rangers are just gutting this one out. They are the least dominant #1 seed that I can recall.

    You can push the goalie past the goal line IF you get knocked into the goalie by the other team, which is what happened. I agree though that the specific play probably shouldn't have been a goal.

    As for least dominant #1 seed - See the Caps and Nucks recently...

    The play is eff'n dead. It doesn't matter whether you were pushed or not once the goalie has it.

    I am a Ranger fan and this is just not a dominant team. Those Capitals and Canucks teams flopped in the playoffs, but they looked legit during the regular season. The blueshirts just get by on great goaltending and defense, and get just that one extra goal they need.

    I'm not arguing he didn't intend to blow the whistle, he did. As I said, probably not a goal, but there's an argument he blew it too quickly.

    I understand what you're saying that the Rangers won't go out and take over games in a sense, but no team ever wants to go down even 1 against the Rangers whereas most teams are still confident down by 1 against almost any other team. I'd say that's a pretty good sign of dominance.

    Been running around with the kid and I turned it on long enough to see the Rags fight off a 5-3, then Rags score followed by a really bad call by the refs. Thanks for the update should be a great 3rd, come on Caps!!
