OT: NHL Playoffs Thread

.. of course all of this can be derailed by a bad series from Bryz, but im cautiously optimistic

Already survived one of them, absolutely cannot afford another. He needs to be average and the Flyers have a good shot against anyone not named the Rangers.

St. Louis is far from a boring trap team!

No, that's exactly what they are.

Who do you see coming out of the West?

Right now, St. Louis. That team is so staunch defensively and incredibly disciplined in sticking with their boring system.

I'd put Nashville as a close second.

  • God I love game 7's. Caps score first. 1-0, about 9 mins left in the first.

  • Champs are done, I want the Flyers next hopefully the Senators can make that happen.

  • Caps Caps Caps. I'm routing for the Senators and Devils to make the next round so the top four teams in the Eastern Conference are knocked out. That will be some interesting match-ups, Caps/Devils; Flyers/Senators.

Who does everyone else like? To be honest, i'd like to steer clear of the Flyers if possible after their convincing wins and rest time between series, so I'd pick the Devils, Rangers then Flyers in that order for the Caps.

No, the forwards play great defense, come back to help the defense, but not a New Jersey old school trap.

im assuming youre a caps fan.. but why would you want the flyers? they went 3-1 vs the caps this year and that loss was at the beginning of the year when the caps were playing their best...

For the Flyers in order of who I want to play:
    Sens, Panthers, Caps, Devils.

Caps and Devils are probably interchangeable. Both seem slightly more dangerous than than the other two. Luckily, all four teams will be coming off tough seven game series. Hoping the Sens can complete a great first round in the East for the Flyers tomorrow.

I live in Philadelphia so I can go to the games and I argue they're playing better now in Dale Hunters system which gears more toward playoff hockey.

  • The NHL right now is hoping the Rags win. If not, very few from here on out will really give a sh*t about the rest of the play-offs and ratings will tumble.

It's funny you say that, as a Caps fan, I'd rather play the Rangers than the Flyers right now, although a classic Flyers-Caps series would be amazing to watch. Caps have been pretty calm for the most part and not letting their emotions affect their play while the Flyers have been thriving off of emotional play and taking advantage of the Penguins. Could be the best matchup in the 2nd round if they somehow end up playing one another

This is the best the Caps have played in the playoffs in recent years hands down. Holtby is one of the big reasons and the team is finally starting to come around Hunter's game plan. I've been a fan since birth, so there have been a lot of letdowns over the year (most notably to Lemieux and Hextall back in the 80's). I'm waiting for the game where Hunter loses his cool and decides to jump on the ice and handle things like he did back in the 90's

Luckily the Flyers and Caps can draw. The Kings have the market, but no fans. Maybe a good group of people there will hit the bandwagon and help the NHL out.

Logic would tell you this. However, if you have followed the Rangers since the Winter Classic, especially in this series, you would know that is far from the truth. This misguided league office would much rather Canada stays alive, their rulings have been very transparent.

yeah, the flyers just don't match up against the Rangers. They are the only team standing in Philly's way of a Stanley Cup Finals run. If the Rangers get eliminated, it'll be eerily similar to when Pittsburgh made it to the finals (I think it was 2008) as the 4 seed, and had home ice as the 1, 2, and 3 all lost.

If the Rangers are gone...no other team IMO can stay with the Flyers.

Hockey is all about match-ups. The Pens' worst matchup was a team that finished behind them. The Flyers match up worse against the Rags, a team the Pens matched up very very well against - considering it won four of six games.

If the Rags lose, the NHL and NBC will be hating life TV ratings wise. Yes, there will be intrigue considering only one of the eight teams left have hoisted the Cup before and that was back in the Gerald Ford Administration. However, the casual fan won't turn in. All the teams that casual fans would turn in for are gone.

Flyers would have an easy trip to the Cup Finals if the Rags lose, however, I think three teams out west can beat them, especially two of them.

I wouldn't go that far. Even if Rags go down, Washington is going to be a tough out from the East. And if St. Louis comes out of the west, they'd be very difficult to beat in the Finals as well.

  • Lundqvist's outburst both publicly and supposedly behind closed doors after game 6 surprised alot of people. The Ranger's will be refocused and will not lose tonight. I think this team knows they have a huge door open to them to get to the finals. Boston and Pittsburgh were going to be our two toughest matchups and they are both gone.

I am thinking it will be the Rangers and Flyers in the conference championship..... and we all know how that will turn out.
