OT: NHL Playoffs Thread

the one on coturier, I can live with. It happens in every game.

the one on giroux bothered me as a hockey fan

I watched every flyers game and a lot of other teams, but dont recall seeing a single hit like that this year. Couturier was 5 feet away from and not playing the puck.

Neal left his feet and to make the hit (which got Ovechkin suspended earlier this year) and hit Couturier in the head.

Then the Giroux hit came on the same shift which only magnifies things. Both G and Couturier had concussions this year.

If Corsby was hit that far away from the puck and someone went towards Letang's head (2 Pens who had concussions) I think there'd be a fair amount of outrage.

I dont think the two sides are ever going to see this the same way though.

No problem with the Neal hits?

The hits themselves were clean, but Neal was anticipating the puck being in a place it wasn't. So instead of a legal hit, he hit a layed out guys unprepared for it...I guess the Giroux hit might have been an attempt to injure. Certainly both were playing hyper-aggresively which leads to a lot of questionable hits anyways.

To clarify, the hits were dirty, but the actual contact was clean. The players just didn't have the puck. From watching the replays just now, they weren't high.

Some of you (not all) Flyers fans must have started watching hockey fairly recently or live in a complete homer bubble. The Flyers have fielded some of the dirtiest teams in the league in the last 20 years.

The Penguins have all the talent in the world and they are getting housed by a Flyers team who is playing way better...they are melting down and some stuff has happened as a result.

Other than the former Flyer, I don't have any real problem with any of the Pen's actions. Maybe the hair pulling...

You realize the game has changed considerably with head injury revelations in the past couple years, right? I figure as a Pens fan, you'd be quite familiar with this (See: Crosby, Sidney). Yes, the flyers have a history of being dirty. But considering the concussion problem in sports right now, you'd think people could realize objectively cheap shots should not be tolerated.

Not having any problem with Neal's actions, however, says enough for me about your opinion. And I thought the hair pulling was the least offensive action. Sure, it is childish, but at least it's not going to injure anyone.

    Delusional fan is delusional.

And Adams has received his automatic one game suspension for his instigator against Hartnell.

neals hit on giroux was dirty, thats not up for debate. hit him in the head and the head only and he didnt have the puck. we're a long way away from when that was a clean hit, like 10 years. This isnt the same league where hits like the Stevens elbow to Lindros' head was legal.

I only caught the third but the hit on Couteriur or whatever his name is was no where near clean. He left his feet and raised his forearm in a clear attempt to hit him in the head. Apart from the fact that the puck was no where near him and had not been for some time.....I like physical hockey and I do not like the flyers, but that was bush league crap.

And I agree, the Flyers have always been dirty (like I said, don't ike them at all) but that doesn't mean you get to take free shots.

He will get a slap on the wrist cause Asham is going to sit for a while I think but he may want to keep his head up.

Crosby needs to give his head a shake as well, yanking on the back of Hartnell's sweater is a good way to get his ass handed to him. I'll give Hartnell credit for realizing who it was and not popping him for it. Cheap ass stuff imo.

He absolutely tried to get at him, but Crosby had him hog tied. Once he got free, Adams jumped him, and earned himself a one game suspension.

Neal clearly left his feet to hit Coutourier, who was about 5 feet away from the puck. I thought that hit was worse then the attempt on Giroux, at least Giroux had the puck.

He tried to get at him before he knew who it was, once he turns around he looks to the ref just before Adams comes in. he was pushing back some but he changed it up a lot once he saw who it was.

A leaping headshot on an unsuspecting player without the puck isn't in any way clean.

Neither is a blindside headshot after taking a run at the guy from a zone away.

He didn't leave his feet before contact, his arms were folded accross his own chest...are we watching the same hit?

    Here's a link that uses super slo-mo.

Go ahead to the 3:00 mark, you can see him loading up his knees to jump and in the air... it's pretty clear.

You can't be serious. He appeared to have his arms in tight, but even the NBC announcers said he left his feet. Watch it again from several angles...especially evident at :47 and 1:03

Pretty clear he starts to leave his feet about two feet before he hits Coutourier and the Giroux hit is a clear attempt to elbow the head.

Since when are you allowed to leave your feet. He was late and launched into the Flyer on the first one.

  • I don't know why people call the Flyers a dirty team? We have that broad street bullies tag on us from the 70's. We have always been a physical team, that doesn't take any s**t from anyone. Pre lockout we played with physicality inside the rules. We had our star player career completely derailed, although I don't think the Stevens hit was dirty. Lindros should have skated with his head up.
