Ran across this last night, thought I would share (SIAP). NFL fan map by US counties.
It's pretty interesting to see the spread of some of the teams. Obviously geographic location is the most influential factor here. For those areas not near a major NFL city, however, it appears that teams with a winning history (eg. Steelers, Cowboys, Denver) cover a lot of ground away from their hometown. Whereas teams with not as much winning history (eg. Eagles , Panthers, Chargers, Bucs, etc.) only cover their hometown areas.
Also funny to note... apparently there's only 1 small county in New York with majority of Jets fans.
At least, the definitive NFL fandom territory map.
Because the Bills are the only New York team. Giants and Jets are Jersey teams.
Not sure how much of a geography person you are, but denvers huge following is not that huge according to this map. They dominate their home state and Wyoming (a huge state, but it has the smallest population in the country) and then has people in other sparsely inhabited states like south Dakota. It just looks huge because it had so many counties with populations that might not even have 1000 people.
Nebraska is very diverse ... and I can't believe how many stinking Cowboy fans are in Virginia.
Steelers in 19 states. And obviously the biggest following in the North East-MidAtlantic regions. Jet's fans? meh.
Fantastik! Is really formula 409! WE ARE....
The map is not accurate. Harrisburg is Philly while York and all areas just south of it are Baltimore.
In my experience, the west shore of the Susquehanna near Harrisburg leans more to the Steelers, the east shore to Philly, and as you move south Baltimore fans start to pop up.
Live in York which is a true melting pot of the 3 teams. Always funny the Sundays CBS airs the 1 pm Raven game over Pitt in PA haha.
Penn State 7x National Champs, home of the winningest college football coach to ever grace a sideline.
Where i live in PA, Ravens are defn king. Most of york county should be purple IMO..
