OT: NFL Survivor

  • Thought it could be useful to pool together our collective wisdom for survivor picks every week assuming none of us are in pools together.

I'm taking New England this week after using Chicago last week. Anyone else have different ideas?

  • I used Philly last week and have Cincinnati this week

  • Dallas over Seattle would be my pick this week. Seattle sucks, and I can't see using the Cowboys any more this season.

That is my only hesitation with NE this week. They have a very easy schedule and should be a good pick down the line. Though over the years I've gotten out of the habit of worrying about that because more often than not it never goes that far. I like to use Vegas when making my picks as well and NE is the only overwhelming favorite this week (-13.5). I'd be scared of Dallas as only a 3pt favorite on the road.

I'll add that Dallas looks like a decent pick next week at home against TB as an early 7.5pt favorite.

I almost always pick home teams at the beginning of the year. It's tough to get a true read on teams for a few weeks and I like having a built in advantage. If Dallas weren't on 10 days rest I'd probably take the seahawks straight up considering Dallas went east coast, back to Dallas then to the west coast and the 12th man. Tough set of circumstances.

That's a good point about the 10 days rest. Hadn't thought about that but still seems too risky to me for week two. I'll stick with NE and let everyone else overthink things.

I'm a Cowboys fan and while I'm certainly thinking they win, I'm not sure I'd take them as a survivor pick this week. I have a hard time ever picking a road team in Seattle as a survivor pick with how big of an advantage that 12th man can really be.
I know looking ahead for me, I would use the Cowboys as a survivor pick in week 11 at home against Cleveland. Much safer IMO.

Anyone against Cleveland seems to be a safe pick at this point.

    Eagles almost disproved that point.

Exactly why I'm leery of the Cincy pick as well. Vegas is actually giving Cleveland some credit for last week. If I had to pick someone other than NE I might go NYG this week at home against TB. They also had 10 days off and I like them to rebound (though in reality I hate them).

  • Also in the Cincy crowd. If you are actually going to win, gotta plan long term.

  • Im helping my girlfriend, and Ive never done one of these... Her office's is on Yahoo... What is the deal here? You can only use a team once, BUT does this carry over into the playoffs? If so, NE or San Fran isn't a good pick at this point. How exactly does this work, what are the rules? Im trying to understand this so that I can help her. Please help guys. TIA

I'm pretty sure you don't have to worry about getting through the regular season.

Yeah. Just checked the rules... They reset in the playoffs... Makes WAY more sense... Thanks jmc. I think the Bungles are a pretty good pick this week.

  • I had Houston week one and took Cincy this week..I subscribe to theory of picking the teams playing the worst team (i.e. Cleveland, St. Louis or Miami)

BTW, for all you guys in the Lions247 FFL, thanks for joining. It was my honor to accept the award for worse loss last week, thinking my trade with Lynch Mob would actually go through in time to add Joe Flacco in time to win....Better to lose early and rule the rest of the season.......who am I kidding...I just got my ass kicked....

Arizona knocked out about 40% of the pool I'm in this week.

  • 75% of mine

  • haha me and my girl are doing great. Picked cincy and avoided the 50 percent that picked the Pats.

Edit: On a side note, wouldnt it be awesome to see the Pats struggle without BOB calling the plays biggrin

Really a massive upset. Didn't see it but can't really second guess the decision. No way anyone saw that coming.

I turned it on just before the missed FG. Miserable way to lose a game (as we all know) and, more importantly, money.

I did. And pretty sure I seconded that. I think what happened is we all (Vegas included) got the wrong read on both Arizona and Seattle when they played last week. Maybe instead of being two bad teams we're actually talking about two decent ones. Philly gets zona next week on the road. Not gonna be easy.
