OT: Manti Te'o dead GF story a hoax?

  • Hmm...

Manti Te'o's Dead Girlfriend, The Most Heartbreaking And Inspirational Story Of The College Football Season, Is A Hoax

Notre Dameo learned first of the death of his grandmother, Annette Santiago, and then of the death of his girlfriend, Lennay Kekua.

  • so crazy to have made this up

    song46

  • And I am sure that the ND coaching staff and admin would have no idea that this might be a hoax that happened to give them and their player good PR.

  • Here we go! Everybody will come out now and preach about how they are smart enough now going forward to know that the media can't be taken as gospel.
I guarantee you people will call the media lazy, stupid, sensationalist, etc. etc.

And yet, as soon as you talk to those same people about Penn State, they will word-for-word spit out the ESPN narrative and recite those same headlines instantly with the utmost confidence.

  • Manti Teo is the most overhyped ass bag in America. I hope this is true because he deserves all the public criticism he will receive over this. The dude is a fraud.

  • Wow I guess you posted this while I was finishing it up to post. Crazy though!!!

That is absolutely crazy if true... which there is enough there especially with Te'o's silence. Find it amusing too that he declined the Senior Bowl, doesn't want embarrassed again I guess?

  • Read the article....it is absolutely shocking!

I always felt suspicious about Te'o, especially in regards to this story. Just something about the way he acted about all this.

  • If true, he should be stripped of his awards. His stats didn't get him those trophies, his story did

I'm told Notre Dame will have an official comment on the Deadspin Manti Te'o story shortly.

  • I actually commented way before I thought he was a fraud. Something didn't add up with this guy. If this is true steps need to be taken. However as a group that got decimated by jumping the gun let's just sit back and wait for more to come out before we go crazy on the guy.

Although in my best story writing ability I could also spin the rest like this....big time gamblers found this out first and approached him prior to the title game. They told him if he didn't get his ass kicked on every single play there were going to come out with the story....so as we all saw he went out and got his ass kicked.

  • Wouldn't it be great if somehow it is figured out that ESPN had this story months ago yet continued to hype him up because they knew ND in the BCS Title Game would be worth the most money.

  • I dont even know what to say. Based on how we've gotten grilled by the media, and this is from deadspin, I'm going to wait and see what the deal is with this before I pass any judgment. I hope to God that it wasn't a hoax, but IF IT is a hoax, then that's a violation of the code of ethics. Period.

  • Notre Dame Statement: Manti Te’o

On Dec. 26, Notre Dame coaches were informed by Manti Te’o and his parents that Manti had been the victim of what appears to be a hoax in which someone using the fictitious name Lennay Kekua apparently ingratiated herself with Manti and then conspired with others to lead him to believe she had tragically died of leukemia. The University immediately initiated an investigation to assist Manti and his family in discovering the motive for and nature of this hoax. While the proper authorities will continue to investigate this troubling matter, this appears to be, at a minimum, a sad and very cruel deception to entertain its perpetrators.

How stupid do they think we are???

Am I to believe he never attempted to meet with or even skyped with this phantom broad? ND could be regretting this statement real soon.

  • I will also reserve judgment until I hear more information. After the past year and a half, I think everyone deserves that. That being said, I find it peculiar that Te'o would say all the stuff he said on Twitter and in interviews, if A) He never actually met the girl and/or B) Did not know it was a hoax. How does he say that her last words to him were "I Love You", yet not be in on the gig?

exactly another fraud story on top of....the rape/suicide story....negligence in regards to the scissor lift

It's convenient for them to finally make a statement after they were exposed yet again

Notre Dame is such a huge fraud

Yet I'm sure nothing will be done

  • The plot thickens. I would LOVE to know the motive of some random girl in becoming someone's girlfriend then faking your death.
