OT: Joe Flacco's new deal

  • Flacco is set to become the highest paid player in NFL history.

    6 years, $120.6M. Unbelievable.

Joe Flacco, Baltimore Ravens reach agreement, according to source - ESPN

Joe Flacco and the Baltimore Ravens have agreed to a six-year contract worth $120.6 million that makes Flacco the highest paid player in NFL history, a source familar with deal told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

  • So usually the initially leaked numbers aren't quite what the deal is - it's the guaranteed money that is the big deal. Plus will be interesting to see what kind of bonuses there might be in a year or two where the team has to decide if they want to pay the bonus or cut him (a la Peyton Manning and the Colts).

That said...no way he's worth that kind of money, IMO.

In Pat's defense, he's still on an NFL roster and made 400K a year since the 2011 season.

  • He is not worth that money. He should give half to that idiot Broncos safety for going full retard with a minute left.

    PSU17

  • One of the best playoff performances in the history of the NFL (11 TD and 0 INT), I guess that was luck.......in the playoffs the first 5 years of his career....28 years old.....like it or not he's a winner. Pay the man, he deserves it!!! I guess you forget if it wasn't for a dropped touchdown pass last year against the Pats the Ravens would have been in the Super Bowl last year as well.

A halfway competent Safety and he's home watching the AFC Champ. game on his couch as the goat after a moon ball INT. it was a life altering misplay.

My QB is making $20M next season and I now think he's a bargain after this deal.

Yep. Good QB for sure, but not even in the top 5 IMO. The new trend in the NFL is the top QB free agent gets the most money. Rodgers next year will shatter that more than likely.

Flacco is the only QB with an arm to even make that throw...

In a league where 2-4 positions matter.... the money makes sense.

You've cleary been watching Eagles QB's for too long if you think no one else can make that throw. It was hardly special and should have been a gift INT. Multiple QB's are a bargain in comparison now.

Elite shouldn't just mean top 10 or 12 QB. I'm so sick of that word already. All I know is I wouldn't want my team to trade for him.

As for the guy he was playing, I'll take Peyton over Flacco any day of the week myself.

Why because the Ravens are going further in the playoffs with Flacco than the Steelers? I don't get it. Big Ben keeps renegotiating his deal and the Steelers are going to have a hefty credit card to pay in the next couple of years.

    Who is better?

    Rodgers - I think so.

    Brees - I do not

Brady - It is not 2007

    P. Manning - No

    E Manning - Maybe???

Big Ben - Probably?? Maybe? Ben cannot stay out of the tub....

    Kap - no

    Flacco is top 5.

And everybody who doesn't like the Steelers are loving the fact that the Steelers keep renegotiating the contracts of their over the hill players.

  • This was a crazy postseason that didn't make sense in terms of scoring. Ravens definitely tied their hands down in this deal. You don't make an extra 15 million without everyone else on the team noticing. For the Steeler haters out there, I'd like to remind you Joe Flacco lost to Charlie Batch, and beat an injured Leftwhich.

Brees??? Stats do not = being better.... check out the playoff success.

Are you related? When you said P Manning - No, you invalidated the poll response!!!

As a body of work for 2012, there is no way you can mention Flacco in the same teir as PManning, Brady, Brees, or Rodgers. They are the elite qbs in the league.

The next tier is where Flacco fits. And that tier is expensive too. It includes EManning/Ben/Rivers/Stafford/Ryan/Romo. After 2013, Luck will fit nicely in there. That's your top 12. He's Tier 2.

    Just my opinion.

Did you watch the playoff game??? Peyton can't throw the ball more that about 20 yards. He's in the November of his career. He'll be 37 years old next season. I'll take a 28 year old Flacco over a 37 year old Peyton Manning all day and all night.
