OT: JOBS FOR PENN STATERS

  • I've been thinking about this for a while...and with everything that's been going on I feel that we need to look out for our own. I think along with this board and the Tickets board we should have a Jobs board. The University has something set for companies looking for Penn State grads but I had zero luck with it. Some of you may say this site isn't the place for this but I think this is the best place for this. IMO, this site is the best way for the Penn State family to connect. I'm an Executive for a real estate asset management company in Orange County, CA and we've been hiring. It's been a very tough job market out there and kids that have just graduated are especially having a tough time finding work. I would love to get some blue and white blood out here working. What does everyone think? Sean, Jeff, Corey, other Mods what would you think about this?

  • I love the idea! I just hired a Nit last week for an entry level sales position. We now have 5 of us in our office, and my company is growing and will be looking for more help soon.

...and if you're not down with that, then I got 2 words for ya.."suck it!!"

  • This is a pretty great idea. I actually work for two tiny companies. The group of us (4) are all Penn Staters and I cannot express to you enough how much it has helped me to have a comforting environment to go to work in everyday. In the fall when the news first hit I was in the complete opposite position. People could understand what I was going through and I felt alone.

  • Awesome thread, I'm a 2005 Telecommunications graduate with experience in sales, consulting, and education. I will be relocating to the Greater Philadelphia area this fall. I'd love any information on leads or referrals. You may pm me.

  • Seriously...if I don't have an opening and a Penn Stater is coming out to my area (west coast), I will go out of my way to find you a job. If anyone needs an internship or job in Orange County PM me.

P.S. Any State College jobs open...I'll move my family of 5 out in 2 seconds!!!

  • Great idea, I work as a Construction Manager in the SF Bay Area and my firm is hiring. Looking for PM's or PE's with anywhere from 3-6 years experience. Message me if interested

  • Great thread idea. I'm moving back to Charleston, SC at the end of August. (CharlestonLion I fully intend to PM you soon) I'm a 2003 psu grad in crime, law, and justice. 2008 master of arts in elementary education from college of charleston. Anyone with any leads down that way, please let me know. Wouldn't HAVE to be in the field of education.

  • I work in IT and live in the Pittsburgh area. I've been looking around recently so if anyone knows of any openings I'd really appreciate it.

  • I actually think it would be a great idea if we were to create a separate jobs board. I can discuss it with Sean and Pat. This is a challenging time for a lot of folks, and there is enough professional influence in this community to make a difference.

Personally, I will be in a new position in roughly 10 days in which I will be responsible for all hiring in SEPA, NEMD, and DELMARVA for a large Investment Management Firm. These resources would be helpful in the fall.

  • I think this is a wonderful idea. Work in sales and live in Stamford, CT. Open to all inqueries.

  • I'm not a PSU alum, so this probably doesn't count. But with any luck, I'll be looking for an engineering job in about a year.

I think it is an awesome idea. Let's keep Nittany Nation roaring all over the world. Maybe I am being "slightly" biased, but many of my best clients and co workers have been PSU alumni. I am a 1995 grad and I own an ad specialty company. We handle apparel, (including tee shirts, sweatshirts, polo shirts & uniforms), trade show exhibits & displays, (including pop up displays, panel systems, tabletops, banners & signs) and promotional items (custom shaped usb drives, lanyards, recycled products, crystal awards and so many more innovative products) for clients of all shapes & sizes. Although we are not currently hiring, we do offer significant referral compensation and discounts for those that bleed blue & white.

  • I'll be graduating the police academy in November doing consortiums and would love any help along the way.

  • Hey this sounds like a really cool idea. Class of 2013 here, will be graduating in the spring and already starting my search for a full time job as an engineer. If anyone has any leads, or wants to see my resume then pm me. I could see this becoming a great opportunity for networking PSU.

edit: I will be accepting a full time job with P&G starting in the summer after I graduate. Could not have accomplished any of this without a Penn State degree.

  • I am a 2002 grad with a BA in communications. I am a practicing attorney in Nashville, TN. I work in healthcare law. I have been looking to move my family back to the East Coast. I have always wanted to work in sports and athletic compliance. I have tried ad naseum to hook on with many different organizations. I am still and always looking. If anyone could help me in anyway I would gladly pay it forward when given the opportunity. I am not opposed to practicing law in the Northeast, in November I will have reciprocity with almost all of the East Coast states. I can be reached at mbm165@yahoo.com if anyone would like to provide some leads for me. Appreciate it. WE ARE

  • For everyone looking for jobs, or wanting to hire, I suggest checking and posting on the websites of the various alumni chapters. Here is a link to the DC Chapter. I know I have advertised for positions on here in the past and recently hired a PSU grad. Also, for the engineers, it might be helpful if you include your specific area of engineering. Good luck everyone!

  • I work as a recruiter for a major staffing firm. Anyone looking pm me and I'd be sure to take in resumes and see what I can do. I'm located in Pottsville.

  • I am also a recruiter. I focus on high end IT positions here in phoenix (we do work on some lower level positions. I'd love to help out fellow alums! I graduated in 05 with a degree in HPA (haven't used my degree once since graduation). I'd love to get back into non-profit work especially corporate donations.

  • With all the great intelligent PSU fans and alumni, why don't we all brainstorm together and create one of the greatest companies in North America. That we would all get rich and donate money to the greatest university we love, PSU.

    Sorry, I was day dreaming.

  • Cool idea. We actually just hired a Penn State grad recently, and not because he is from my alma mater either. Very mature kid, just as qualified as any other candidate, and before he knew I was a Penn Stater myself, I asked him in his interview his thoughts on the situation and his answer was mature, respectful, and probably better than I ever could have expressed. Great kid, and we were thrilled to have him on board.

I am not solely in charge of hiring but I do interview candidates. Not hiring for the moment, but I will surely update everyone if we get a networking board rolling.

I was a Penn State IE, and tend to hire IEs to our engineering team, but anyone pursuing that type of field (more service system engineering than manufacturing) is welcome to send a resume that I can keep on file.

    We Are!!!

  • Looks like I will be heading back home to the Philadelphia area in the next two months!!

I have a job offer, but I am actively seeking something that is likely a better fit. Feel free to send me an email if you have any leads or referrals.

  • What about non PSU grads that are just huge PSU fans. I would give anything to relocate back to the PA area and my new job that I started in February is not working out. Independent outside sales rep for a medical device (test equipment) company. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
