OT: Horrible school shooting, 27 dead, 20 of them children.

  • When nothing in life satisfies you then you are obviously willing to go out the way he did. He did that. He got his attention at the cost of his life and unfortunately others. I am no psychologist, but this is how I see it. A sociopath feels no emotion whatsoever (think Dexter), maybe in his mind he longed to feel something. Killing kids was something he used to try and feel something. When he felt nothing he killed himself. This is a sane person trying to navigate the mind of a crazy person.

Bottom line is that we need to let the victims rest, they are safe now. Let their families grieve in peace and cope themselves. Prayers go out to all of them.

You mean psychopath. And by definition a psychopath is also a sociopath. But not all sociopaths are necessarily psychopaths.

Its debatable. They truly haven't defined either. Now they are saying he was slightly autistic, but that shouldn't be to blame.

Yeah. I guess we're parsing terms here. Evil. can't come up with an other excuse for it.

  • I hate the term "evil." If someone is a schizophrenic, are they evil? The voices in their head day in and day out telling them to do something. They have no idea that they are crazy, they for the most part don't know if what they are perceiving is real or not. I don't think this guy was a schizo though. I wouldn't call someone fighting a major mental illness evil. Sorry to nitpick, as someone who has very mild OCD I take anything regarding mental health seriously. Its unfortunate that mental illness is so taboo that it allows this to happen. In fact I would say a vast majority of people with these severe cases get swept under the rug. Gun regulation could help, but people should have the right to bear if they meet the criteria. So say this guy has a severe mental illness that has been identified by a licensed medical professional. He should never be allowed to purchase a firearm. He should be red flagged immediately.

  • So Friday's events were unimaginable. Hurts to even think about what those families are enduring. By chance, this morning I happen upon a documentary on Netflix called "Craigslist Joe". For 90 minutes, it helped to restore some faith in humanity. If you're looking for a little uplift, watch it. It is really a special story.

I think everyone can agree that the Westboro Baptist Church and its members are some of the biggest pieces of garbage on the planet.

Let me know how you liked it. It was a nice lift for me, and I wasn't even looking for it.... just by chance.

In case anyone else is interested, the documentary was produced by Zach Galifianakis and the premise is that a guy - Joe Garner - decided to test an idea.

For 31 December days and nights, everything in his life would come from the Craigslist website. From transportation to food, from shelter to companionship, Joe would depend on the generosity of people who had never seen him and whose sole connection to him was a giant virtual swap meet. What he encounters during that month is pretty amazing.....

I just finished watching it and really enjoyed it! Thanks for mentioning it! You have to wonder a bit if the reactions/generosity of folks would be the same if there wasn't a cameraman recording them but regardless it was a good piece on how there are a lot of giving people across the country. Thanks.

I came across this today, and think something harsher than these counter-protests should do the job.

A Westboro Baptist Church protest at a military base north of Seattle this past Friday didn't get much attention. That's because the area was swarmed by zombies.

  • When stuff like this happens it put things in perspective. It makes us ask "Why?"

Favorite quote from one of my favorite authors:
“God created things which had free will. That means creatures which can go either wrong or right. Some people think they can imagine a creature which was free but had no possibility of going wrong; I cannot. If a thing is free to be good it is also free to be bad. And free will is what has made evil possible. Why, then, did God give them free will? Because free will, though it makes evil possible, is also the only thing that makes possible any love or goodness or joy worth having” (C.S. Lewis).
