OT: NHL Playoffs Thread

The D is bad, but they're also not going to face another offensive group like the Pens in this conference. We definitely need Schenn and Curturier healthy and it would be a huge boost if Meszaros gets back in a few weeks. We'll see how the matchups play out. The other series are all tight.

Do you knew JVR's status? I remember hearing that he could potentially be back for round 2, but that info is a few weeks old.

    I've heard the same...sometime in round 2-3.

He practiced yesterday. I saw a tweet saying something like "if the series goes long, JVR could see the ice."

My guess is sometime in round 2.

  • If Philly wants to go far that defense better get better. Unlike this series Philly hasn't matched up well vs the remaining teams, specifically the rangers.

Philly matches up extremely well vs Pittsburgh this year. Probably going to win 8/10 matchups vs Pens in 2011-2012

  • The Rangers and Bruins have been their nemeses. They'd match up well with the others. Hopefully, at least one of the two gets upset and they somehow avoid them until the conference Finals.

  • Congrats Flyer fans on the series. Pittsburgh needs a vet foward on the team for leadership purposes...Gary Roberts or Billy Guerin don't let a team play as sloppy as the Pens have. The Flyers have taken advantage of just about everything, and if their defense wasn't showing some cracks and missing Pronger, these games would have been less close.

I'll admit Asham needs to be suspended for the rest of the series, although I liked how Crosby and especially Letang tried to do something to switch up momentum. Hushing up the crowd was dumb though.

On a team that has been so devoid of talent at the wing position, what a fricking waste of a lot of wingers career years.

  • Leadership isn't an issue. The issue is Swiss cheese defense and a goalie who is playing the worst of his career.

This team was awful the last 3 weeks and MAF has given up over 4 goals a game over the last 6 weeks. That won't get it done.

  • Giroux is hurt from that Neal cheap shot.

"Neal got a hard hit on Claude Giroux's head as well, which left Giroux dizzy and looking out of sorts the rest of the game. After Talbot scored to make it 8-4, he skated by the Flyers bench to high-five everybody and Giroux notably stayed seated, unable to stand. That Giroux has something wrong with him right now neurologically is almost beyond dispute. Here's hoping the Flyers quack medical staff is sage enough to at least realize that its not worth risking him again this series."

  • Ahhh, best series in the entire playoffs!! I'm actually surprised it's 3-0 and not 2-1. Fluery's confidence is completely shot.

i was afraid of that.. i thought he might be hurt. thats all i was think of for the last few minutes. effing cheap penguins. they know they cant win so they goon it up and attack the best players in the series (giroux and Cout). unbelievable

    chasfcd11

  • If Giroux is indeed concussed and misses time, then Neal will almost certainly get suspended for a few games. The fact that he had two separate head shots on the same shift just can't go unnoticed by the league office. Nevermind, these are the Penguins we're talking about, so of course they can.

  • Giroux seemed fine in the post game interview he was also in the fight at the end of the game... If he is hurt time to put Shelly in for 3 reasons

I know the 2 cant be compared. But do you remember the return of Pronger in 2010 against montreal? He made such an impact on the team

    frxank

  • Giroux probably isn't concussed imo. I think he was shaken up and that was about it. He seemed fine once he rested. Also he didn't really fall down from the hit. After getting hit he went to fix his visor which had turned sideways and then went to pick up his mouthguard which fell out, ultimately he lost his balance when hurrying to pick up his mouthguard.

  • Just watched the TSN videos that PRF posted. The announcers were right that the refs needed to do more to control the game. The lack of penalties on early scrums led to the big fights and cheap hits later.

    Cambria Nittany

  • Im not saying we (Flyers) shouldnt be concerned about the amount of goals weve given up, but hockey is weird like that. Both teams usually score a lot or a little. Especially in the playoffs you rarely see 8-1 type games

    frxank

  • I hope JVR can comeback and contribute. He was obviously a beast in last year's playoffs.

Question is whose spot would you give him? I'd have a tough time mixing up these line combo's even with a healthy JVR.

The most obvious candidates I guess would be Wellwood, or maybe Rinaldo? But Wellwood is lightning fast and has played well and you need Rinaldo around even if he isn't the most skilled.

Where would you guys try to squeeze JVR in at this point?

Wow! Philly fans complaining about violence in hockey. How ironic! No doubt that was a disgrace today but now Flyers fans know how it feels to actually have talented players on the roster that are targeted by the rest of the league. The Pens have had talented players targeted for the better part of the last 3 decades. Amazing how hypocritcal Philly is-too much Jim jackson and Steve Coates clouding your judgment.

you must have missed the post game dress down that the national NBC announcers gave the pens. in fact they just talked about it again.

the flyers are dirty, but they dont do the s*** the pens did today, not for a long time anyway.

Bro ur obviously delusional and are taking into too much smoke and steel mill fumes. Not saying the flyers are choir boys or have been saints in the past, however head shots and taking runs at players cause u are getting ur butts kicked is embarrassing. Especially w sindeys history w concussions, hits like they did was uncalled for and not good for hockey. These are reasons y Crosby, a great talent, is hated around te league, for the way he disrespects hockey

Crosby is hated in Philly like Hartnell in Pittsburgh but to say he disrepects hockey is way out of left field. Dont confuse Philly's perception with the rest of the NHL. How soon Philly forgets when Hatcher knowcked out Crosby's teeth in his first game against the Flyers. Save the me the Flyers are holier than thou crap....

im sorry, the rest of the NHL doesnt like crosby as much as you think... Hatcher got penalized for that, nobodies forgetting it. you cant keep pointing to it everytime someone calls out crosby for being a baby. every action he did today screamed "whiney b****"
