  • Officially starts Wednesday at 7:30. Good luck Pens fans. Let's go Flyers!

Figured there would be enough interest for its own thread*

  • Fleury is the X factor. If he plays even remotely well, the Pens should win. Uncertainty surrounding Brierre and Giroux.

Fleury has this habit of looking like a freakin wall, and then giving up a 50' goal, or a wrister with literally no traffic.

I think of the 6 times the Pens/Flyers have played, the Pens have held 2-0 3x, and 1-0, 2-1 in 5 of the 6 games, and he gave up the tying goal shortly after either the Pens got the lead, or the Flyers cut it down to 2-1.

He's so damn frustratingly inconsistent, it's maddening.

  • Flyers fan here. This is going to be one stressful series to watch as a fan but I fully expect a war. We'll see if either team can make it out alive!

  • Giroux will be fine. He sat yesterday because he had been sick all week. That's all it was.

  • My 2 cents...Go Pens!

ahh, they said something about an upper body injury.

Yep. G was out mostly to avoid confrontation. No need for Vitale or Orpik to take a run at him in a meaningless game. He'll be fine.

As for Briere, the Grossmann injury is much more important. He's been a rock on defense since the deadline.

The flyers only ever list injuries as upper/lower body injuries...because they love frustrating all of us. The beat writers all said he had been sick (a respiratory thing) which led to the 'upper body' designation. I would be floored if he doesn't play at 100%

Agree. Gross an is the key here.

Would be nice to get Mezz and JVR back at some point but not sure what those chances are.

Yep. Rough injuries down the stretch. At least Grossmann got a deal in place so he'll be back next year, so he won't be playing with that uncertainty looming over his head on top of an injury.

Flyers cannot pull the crap they pulled the last two months and give up two early goals every game and grit out a win. That won't work anymore.

Agree that wears on you quickly. Nice to know you are never out, but getting the leg up give confidence as well.

JVR will be out another 2-3 weeks and Mez is out for another 4-6. Mez is pretty much done for the year and JVR can come back for the semi-finals, or he pulls a Jeff Carter and comes back next week.

The X-Factor here is our 4th line Rinaldo, Talbot and Couturier, against the 3 lines the Pens will throw at us. Malkin, Staal and Crosby. They have been able to shut down top lines in the NHL and I expect them to do the same thing against those 3 lines.

Another X-Factor is the goaltending of Bryz. If he is hot then we beat the Pens, no questions asked. If he is cold, then its gonna be a long series and our offense better be able to respond. As good as Fleury has been this season, he still shows signs of inconsistency and especially against the Flyers.

Hopefully all the cards line up for us, if not then its gonna be a long series. I say Pens in 6.

We are too young and inexperienced to make a deep run, but if this team stays together over the next few years and gets that valuable playoff experience, I expect the Flyers to win a cup within the next 3 years.

  • Bad matchup for Pens. Was very happy my Devils kept playing well and stayed in 6th place. Whoever wins this series will be beat up and ripe for a loss in round 2. I'd rather see the Pens win, but think Flyers in 6 or 7.

  • Flyers win Game 7 in overtime in Pittsburgh on a goal scored by Jagr.

  • A little OT, but kind of not: Pirates take the series. Good start for Pittsburgh.

  • I have a feeling this series is going to be wrapped up by Friday, April 20th. Hopefully there wont be too much bad blood and we'll all be able to enjoy BOBs first Blue-White weekend.

I think a five game series is unlikely.

  • Pens in 6, they are the most talented team in the league and they are healthy.

And still got spanked around by an unhealthy flyers team just last week in their own building. shrug

anyone who folllows hockey knows the playoffs is whole differnt animal....regular season means nothing. Not to mention a few of those regular season games could have gone either way. wouldn't be pounding my chest Flyers fans

The Pens are built for the playoffs.

  • Plus every hockey expert/writer in the business is picking the Pens not only win this series and the cup. The only people who think the Flyers will win are Flyer fans.

I never pounded my chest. But pens fans acting like they're by far the better team is pretty unrealistic. If anyone pounded their chests it was pens fans. I think it will be very hard fought six or seven game series and could go either way with a few bounces. If that's pounding my chest, then I kinda suck at it.
