OT: Fantasy Baseball...

  • Hey, everyone. I'm relatively new to the board (also post on Rivals) and was wondering if anyone had interest in participating in a fantasy baseball league? If you guys are interested, I'd be happy to set it up. I was thinking about keeping it simple...It would be standard 5 x 5/All MLB/Snake draft on ESPN. Scoring would be head-to-head, each category is a win/loss. Below is the positional breakdown (standard ESPN settings)...

    C / 1B / 2B / 3B / SS / 2B, SS / 1B, 3B / OF / OF/ OF / OF / OF / UTIL
    9 Pitchers
    4 Bench
    1 DL

I've traditionally participated in a league with a group of friends from college but as we've gotten older and farther apart it's been harder to organize and keep interest so I figured the board could be a good way to try to organize a competitive league. Depending on the level of interest, ten teams would be ideal since anything less than that would make for a very shallow mixed league. If you have interest and would like to join, I ask that you just try your best to actively manage your team throughout the year.

If you're interested, leave a reply and I'll get back to you via a PM. To be fair, the first ten or twelve posters to reply will be the first invitees. If we can get a competitive league going I think this will be a good way to help pass the time this offseason. We'll try to set up a time for a live online draft that will be convenient for everyone. I usually like to draft very close to opening day since by that time most spring injuries will be accounted for and managers can draft accordingly. If you have any questions, suggestions, comments, etc. feel free to leave them.

    Thanks, guys.

  • I was just thinking over the weekend how it has been about 10 years since I have done a league and was interested in possibly doing one this year.

I know that you mentioned that you wanted to do the draft fairly close to opening day....I am assuming an evening draft or something like a Sunday morning would probably be the best time of day.

Also, would their be any $$$ to join and then have a cash reward at the end...maybe something like 75% to the winner and 25% to second place at the end of the year?

Thanks for offering to put it together!

That's exactly what I was thinking. Like you said, a Sunday morning or evening may be the best time for the draft. We'll definitely revisit that.

As far as a cash prize for first and second place, I would definitely be open to it but I didn't want to propose it because sometimes that's a dealbreaker for some. Either way, I enjoy it just the same. So depending on the feedback it's something we can establish.

Really pleased with the interest so far. I'll be checking back in soon.

As far as $$ goes, I wasn't thinking of anything mind blowing....maybe everyone throws in $20-$25. If 10 people put in $20 that's a $200 pot......1st place wins $150.00, 2nd place wins $50.00.....everyone else goes out knowing they had a great time!

I also figure if their is money on the line, people might be more willing to keep up with the managing of their team a little more.

I was thinking about a $20 max myself. I just don't want it to deter anyone from participating. The prize amounts you proposed sound good if we decide to do it.

So far besides the people who have replied so far (and ultimately decide to join), it's just myself and a friend of mine who will be participating.

As far as a draft date, I think we should try to shoot for March 25 if possible. We can determine a time.

It will be standard ESPN settings. Live scoring on ESPN is free, where as Yahoo you have to pay for the Scoring Tracker IIRC.

Yahoo did away with paying for the scoring tracker last year. I was really happy with that decision.

Yes, it has made things much better. I love Yahoo for fantasy now.

  • Ok guys, I've sent PMs to all those who have expressed interest so far. League is ten teams, five slots have already been filled. The remaining five will be first come, first serve. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up.

Thanks to all those who have already joined and who have expressed interest.

  • One thing I wanted to mention...

Draft is currently scheduled for Sunday, March 25 at 10:15 am. It doesn't appear that ESPN is letting me change that, although in past years I was able to. I apologize for any inconvenience if that's not a good time. I will update if I find a way to change it. But hopefully given the advance notice it won't be too much of an issue.
