No it wouldn't. I know everyone is BOB'ed up right now, but looking at things realistically...if offered a $1 mil/yr raise to take over ND, who is coming off a NC appearance, vs staying here for 5 more years of sanctions...I wouldn't call him a traitor for going.
After all, this guy didn't exactly 'win' this power play that he supposedly hoarded over our Administration. He was at that PC spewing the company line just like he was supposed to do. So why was he interviewing w NFL teams then? It didn't appear to accomplish much. His words don't mean a lot to me.
I think he's auditioning for future employers. We are a resume padder, and he's doing a fine job of using it properly. It's the way that the coaching game is played now, and I have no beef with it. I'm not expecting him to be here for very long, and if the right college or NFL job came along, I wouldn't be surprised if he left before lunch time. We were a 'big enough' program in a 'desperate enough' situation to consider a first timer like him. He jumped on it and is riding the wave. Good for BOB...good luck elsewhere in the near future.

I think we all know that.
It's just kind of crazy that you would assume a guy who just had a press conference to say he's coming back to a team for next year, would then bolt for another college. That would just destroy OBs rep, absolutely destroy it. He very publicly said he was coming back to PSU, to go back on that now he would looked at like Kiffen and Petrino.
The sticker for me is that OB preaches honesty and loyalty. He would never be able to preach any of those things again if he bolted after that presser. Before? Sure, he had the sanctions to blame, PSU lying to him or whatever. Now, he has nothing. It would be a cold blooded advance, and his rep would be destroyed. Maybe he doesn't care, I don't know the man. But if he is the man he puts forward, he will be the coach at PSU next season.

It's happened a lot everywhere else, so I don't think that the premise is crazy.
I don't disagree with any of what you say. But...we've all been surprised before. If the ND job were to open, it's unlikely to me that BOB would leave. But it's not an outrageous thought (to me at least) either.

As a die hard Eagles fan Lurie is on thin ice with me. I never liked him before. Always thought he was too cheap to get over the top. Then he took the Dan Snyder approach two years ago, dream team fail. Last years proclamation of 8 wins isn't good enough ruined this seasons chances for anything. Then you fire Andy Reid, another huge fail. Swing and miss on Bob n Chip amongst otgers, and now are interviewing a coach who left his boys at Cincinnati high and dry and just got his shit pushed in in the biggest game he's ever coached in. Ummm Eff U Lurie.

I think that when the trouble with his kids started Lurie should have taken some of the personnel stuff off of Andy's plate whether he liked it or not. And no doubt the OL injuries killed them. Not many Eagles fans seem to get that. Glad there are at least two of us. He better get the show on the road. I'd like our new coach to be doing draft prep ASAP.

Those buyouts are imaginary numbers that accomplish two things:
1. Hedge against mass approaches from competitors
2. Sets the starting point for negotiations if a competitor is seriously interestedThey're far more common in European soccer where every player can be bought/sold and has a release clause price in his contract. Many of these figures are absolutely astronomical (Messi's is 250mil Euro for example) which are never actually paid, but it sets the bar for negotiations if someone is serious about a buyout.
9 times out of 10...if the player/coach wants to leave, a negotiation is reached at a far lower figure than the buyout. On a few occasions, the asset holder demands the full buyout which ruins negotiations and they are left with a furious asset. That's why they typically agree to a lower fee to avoid the friction.
If the buyout were an insurmountable figure, why would NFL teams even bother interviewing him? Because they know that if BOB truly wanted to leave, PSU would negotiate down the price (especially our current leadership team).
It's highly unlikely that Kelly would leave, so it doesn't matter. But if he did, I think that there would be mutual interest btwn ND and BOB...and the buyout wouldn't be the mitigating factor in a potential switch.

OT: Eagles met with Brian Kelly?
