Looked up their recruiting #90, just below Central Michigan. What surprised me is that Stanford is at #88.

I think it is a good hire. Marone was not a great recruiter, but he certainly could coach. His teams were way down on talent, but he at least had them respectable.

I looked at their class, not alot of highly rated kids coming outta high school but they do have a bunch of JUCO OL and DL. Not sure if the staff would have any interest in them but they may be able to help PSU depth wise.

Perhaps our season opener just got a little bit easier? First game under a new coach is always difficult. Look at us last season.... if we play Ohio 10 times right now, we win 8 or 9 of them. But the first game with a new coaching staff and different schemes on both sides of the ball takes a few games to get comfortable with

At this point, I like to wait and watch what a head coach does before forming too much of a judgment on him. I don't hate the hire.

Is it just me, or does it seem weird that 2 recent hires by the NFL were both from the old BIG EAST (Schiano/Marrone)??? Is it just that the real conferences are that much better to coach in, or is there some mystical pipeline thing???

Schiano is a mystery to me. Marrone actually has coached in the NFL (OC with Saints, OL coach with NYJ). Reason he coached at 'Cuse to begin with is that he wanted to help resurrect his alma mater.
