OT: Diablo III

  • I know there are a few gamers on here. Anyone picking up the highly entertaining Diablo III? Its been almost 12 years since the classic Diablo II launched.

  • I'm going to pick it up for the nostalgia. I don't have much time to play but I've been looking forward this for years now. The first two were awesome. It's hard to believe its been this long since 2 came out.

  • Played the first one in high school, the second in college. I rarely play games anymore, but I have been waiting for this thing to come out. Can't wait.

  • The great thing about Diablo was how it transcended most games. People from all walks of life enjoy it. I work in a bookstore during break and so many people bought copies of the strategy guide. I had some really good conversations today with customers as a result.

    @Nitts How is SWTOR? I have a mac so I can't play it. One of my favorite games of all time was KOTOR on the original XBOX.

  • FWIW, we are not alone. Blizzard has reported that DIII pre-sales are stronger than expected and will be the highest in the company's history.

    Good MMO, but not great. Love BioWare, but they seemed to rush this game out. Not much end game progression as alot of gamers would like and it became really repeatitive, very quickly. I think that's the reason 400K+ subscribers dropped after first big patch. I did enjoy it though.

    Good to here. This is most likely due to the fact that they made Diablo 3 more accessible. Their is a set progression in the game, rather than choosing your stats and what not. Which I enjoy.

    I read that it broke Amazon's game pre-order record as well.

    I've been trying to knock out some of my older buys from various Steam sales, and hold off from buying new stuff until I finish a few, but I broke down a few days ago, pre-ordered, and have the installer sitting on my hard drive waiting for 11:01am today to install.

    Dammit.

  • I've got it downloaded and ready to go for tomorrow! Really can't wait.

    I played in the open beta weekend a month ago and the first 13 levels by themselves were nothing short of awesome. I'm really looking forward to this.

    Sidenote on SWTOR, I also just dropped my account for that game, but not because it was bad, but just because I don't feel like I have enough time to play MMOs anymore. I thought SWTOR was pretty fun, but I also found myself not wanting to log in if I only had an hour or so to play, because I didn't think I'd get that much done.

    Gone are the days where my life would allow me to play MMOs for hours and hours at a time. Oh well. I think I'll still really be able to enjoy myself playing DIII though.

    What I liked about the previous Diablo games is that you can level up while actually playing instead of having to do BS meaningless tasks to get your player up to par. I, like you, just don't have the time for that anymore.

    BTW, how big is the file that is downloaded and how long did it take for you? I am thinking about going this route instead of picking up the disc.

    I think to download the installer it took about 40 minutes but that is just a guess, it was about 7.5 GB. Then the actual install was like 15 GB and that took me like 30 minutes give or take. I did this on a Macbook so I don't know how it is on a PC.

    Can't tell you exactly how long it took to download the installer since I ran all that in the background while I was playing other things and downloading Witcher 2 off of Steam, but it didn't seem to take too long.

    The install took me about 15 or 20 minutes I think.

    Got to play for around a half hour hour over lunch. I haven't played a click-to-move game in close to a decade so we'll see how my aged trigger finger holds out.

    Gameplay, they've been down for awhile. 4:30 EDT is when they say they'll be up again.

    I'm guessing they sold WAY more games than what they anticipated.

    EDIT: But this is nothing new for battlenet. The servers always suck ass for the first couple of weeks when a game is released.
