OT - Crossfit

Please pleaseeee work your way into it. I am not a Crossfit fan by any stretch and puking does not really mean much to me if you are looking to gain strength, but as Fitz would say with regards to training, there are a thousand ways to skin a cat.. Cookie cutter programs are extremely dangerous and lots of people have ended up in the hospital due to rhabdo. Work your way into the program slowly over time, or you'll start pissing blood and pissing muscle (seriously - its a brown color piss) and will need intensive care.

Once you are in shape, Crossfit can be a good way to stay in shape.

Absolutely 100% correct! You'll still get great workouts by modifying everything. No one just starting Crossfit should ever worry about Rx'ing anything for a few months at least!

  • PSU17: I think it's more of a cult thing for people in hard-core pockets of the CF community and military. Had never heard of it until recently (after becoming familier with people from both groups).

A fair warning. Usually, though, the people who get rhabo are NOT the out-of-shape people trying to finally lose the beer belly- Those people simply don't have the muscle capacity (yet) to push themselves hard enough to get hurt like that. The people who are most vulnerable are actually those who get "into shape" doing some other, less intense form of exercise (heavy weight lifting, long distance running, etc), then think they're fit enough to go all-out on a WOD. The Iowa football players from a few years back (D-1 athletes and considered in shape) fit the profile well.

But, like any program, you gotta be careful.
