OSU's trying to skate around NCAA sanctions.

This is like when a child gets caught punching his sibling. Then, just before the parents dole out punishment, the kid makes a "sincere" offer to give his sibling an ipod or something. When, in reality, the kid had previously stolen said ipod from his sibling to begin with.

In effect, meaningless. Is anyone beyond the official bookkeepers of the NCAA going to think of those games as vacated wins? Doesn't exactly make me feel any better.

I find this self imposed penalty to be as laughable as Tressel's original 2 game suspension. I imagine it will stick for a similar amount of time before it's increased by someone.

Yes, and it's called "repeat offender" that is on the table for the NCAA.

They were charged with improper payment or something to a basketball player in March 2006 and a 5 year probation. These latest infractions occurred well within that 5 year probation window.

Not only is repeat offender on the table, so is Institutional control (remember this has been going on since 2001, and the HEAD COACH, AD AND PRESIDENT all signed an affidavit stating that no infractions have occurred). Tressel almost certainly will get a just cause penalty, ending his career IMO.

2 year probation self imposed by OSU is not going to really help their causes. I think they got wind that they are going to get hammered, and decided to do this. Had they fired Tressel immediately, not played the Tat 5 in the Bowl game, and given themselves a 2 year probation, it would look far better than it does now.

OSU is looking squarely at 30 lost scholarships (or more), 5 year probation, and 2 or 3 year bowl ban.

Oddly, the Sugar Bowl victory was actually legit, as the ncaa had already penalized the players and deemed them eligible for that game. Of course, they wouldn't have earned a BCS bowl bid with an 0-12 record...

It wasn't directed to you personally. It was in reference to your point that the penalty is worthless.

I think Seltz was using the I slept with your wife, but I gave you her clothes back as an analogy ... I imagine most guys couldn't give a crap about a his wifes clothes, its was the cheating that he is pissed about.

I saw the analogy of it being like a bank robber getting caught after multiple robberies and stating to the police- "I'd like to just retract the robberies now and pretend they never happened"...

Despite giving up the wins, they kept the money from the BCS game they received! The NCAA isn't going to let it go at just that. Bowl ban and scholarships are coming...
