OSU secondary violations

A good friend of mine is a PSU booster and a member of the Letterman's Association. He told me 6-7 years ago that there were concerns about JS and the Second Mile as it relates to kids. Troubling concerns. He also said that PSU was distancing itself from the organization. I would never doubt his word when it comes to PSU football. That is where I heard about the rumors.

You're full of shit. You would have been over here annoying us like you are now with these accusations.

...and if you're not down with that, then I got 2 words for ya.."suck it!!"

Guys I'm not trying to flame. I'm sure the truth will come out some day from all this mess. Peace.

I actually believe you. I didn't know about it until recently, but there were charges against Sandusky in the past. One of the mothers could have put this guy away 10 years ago but refused to press charges (no clue why). Then corbett refused to press charges too when he was the DA. This is probably what Buckrock is talking about. The BOT heard of these allegations and tried to stay away from sandusky.

The late 90s incident (forget the year) where the mother confronted him about showering with hers on and authorities heard him admit to showering and maybe accidentally touching from hugging. The authorities knew about that as they listened in on the convo, but nothing ever came of it, as in I dont know where you are getting these charges from the past that you mention.

The Corbett stuff was recent, it was not that he did not press charges it was that he assigned 1 person to the case and forgot about it for 3 or so years, until the new AG came in.

  • Looks like more violations coming from OSU

  • Again, given their "probation" (and I do use that term loosely), any violations, no matter how small, violate their probation and immediately make them subject to much harsher penalties, including repeat offender that should have been used this year, but for some reason was not.

They were given the failure to monitor flag, and LOIC not being issued was an act of god, but could easily...EASILY be put on now.

Yeah but in this one Gene Smith says there are no more violations pending, lol.

  • "Our whole thing is if we have 10 (violations), I'd have a problem," Smith told The Lantern. "I mean, I really would, because people are going to make mistakes. And that means if I only have 10 (violations) out of 350 employees (and) 1,000 athletes -- something's not right."

So basically Smith is saying, "If we're not cheatin', we're not tryin'."

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but there are no penalties for secondary violations if self reported right?

So there is no penalty attached to the violation, and thus no incentive to follow the rules, only incentive to report the violation. So can we really be surprised that OSU, or any school for that matter, commits so many of these violations when the pressure to win is enormous. A BCS bowl is worth Millions more than a secondary bowl game. And to get to the BCS you need to get the best recruits, thus the incentive to get the recruit FAR outweighs any incentive to follow the rules.

In other words the cost of committing secondary violations is very little compared to the benefit of getting the best players. Meyer & Gene Smith are not stupid. They know the benefit far outweighs cost. That's the way the system is set up, as dumb as it is, so they work the system. We have the NCAA to thank for that.

Until there is some penalty attached to committing secondary violations it will continue to be like this. And even if they did attach penalties, it would just provide incentive for programs to hide their secondary viations, not adhere to the rules. Additionally, policing secondary violations is difficult. Are we naive enough to believe Meyer would have reported his contact with Spence even if the photograph never surfaced? He's a corrupt coach of a corrupt program operating in corrupt system.

IMHO, the only way to clean up college sports is to get rid of the NCAA entirely & replace it with an independent oversight agency, overhaul & simplify the rules, and implement a carrot & stick system to reward programs for running clean & punishing those that don't without playing favorites.

I wish the NCAA would adopt a policy in which a school already on probation gets nailed for secondary violations. OK, they reported 46 already, but haven't reported 10-12 more. Secondary violations for the NCAA are like green cards in field hockey - worthless. Maybe give the school a yellow card for the first set of infractions (secondary) and then a red card on the next set? Nothing happens with secondary violations. A school can report 1,000,000 of them and not get in trouble.

    This is the problem.

Someone hears things... they are completely false.... then they spread them and other people believe them and then they spread them on.

And all of that quoted stuff above, is bullshit.

Ray Gricar decided against pressing any charges whatsoever against Sandusky.

Says Bruce Castor, a montgomery county commissioner who knew Gricar well...

So why didn't Gricar file charges against Sandusky?

"I would be stunned if it was for any reason other than he simply did not think he had the evidence,"

No one should know the details of this story better than PSU fans. If we cant get the facts that are available straight how the Hell is anyone else going to?

    Man I HATE this guy:

"Smith on Thursday issued a statement saying "Ohio State Athletics is not facing any major NCAA violations."

"There are several secondary violations being processed by our compliance office. These are similar to those released last week," Smith said in his statement. "Again, these are secondary in nature and consistent with our culture of self-reporting even the most minor and inadvertent violations.

"Again, to be clear, the Ohio State football program, its coaches and staff are not facing any violations.""

    So arrogant.

Penn State fans should say nothing. Your athletic department allowed child rape on their watch. Humility and shame is what PSU fan base should be spewing.

Cue......" it isn't about our football team" yada, yada. PSU fans are sooooooo predictable.

By the way, nothing will come of this. It is funny how much tOSU is talked about on this board. That is when you truly know you are THE big dog. LOL

But if we said nothing you wouldn't be able to come over and look like an idiot. It seems to be the highlight of your day.

Your athletic dept allowed a convicted sex offender to mingle with recruits & players a few months ago. There are pictures of him with them.

Your program also knowingly lied to keep players eligible & even when they were caught tried to cover it up.

We can go back & forth all day with this crap, but the reality is, you & your fan base are hoping for more dirt to come out about PSU so you can gain a competitive advantage on the gridiron. What that means is you HOPE more children were abused so your football team has a better chance at winning. That's just morally rerehensible on all levels.

    So the Buckeyes proirities are
    1. Win!!!! ....

    2. Safety of children

    Do I have that right?
