OSU secondary violations

I think the video is the bigger transgression, and one that deserves more than a slap on the wrist.

    That was calculated.

Totally agree. Gene Smith is an arrogant dickhead who thinks he is untouchable. That is the only way to explain knowingly commiting a violation and then reporting it.

I believe alot of OSU fans/alum are tired of Gene Smith and ready for his tenure to expire.

One the violations was not letting sandusky "horse play" with the team in the mens shower room.. GO BUCKS!!!

Can this dude get banned? He's made four posts on here and they are this one above and these 3 below:

    1. The joke is how THE OHIO STATE flips your recruits (Shutt, Spence) so they dont get raped in the showers LMAO!!! GO BUCKS!!!!

    2. The bucks went home because they didnt want to be molested in the showers afterwards... GO BUCKS!!!

    3. Your an idiot!!

Ok, so the last one is dumb, but the other 3 show he's clearly got one thing in mind, and it's to get banned. So please give him what he wants so people don't have to respond to him.

Gene Smith isn't the only dickhead running that school. The President is one as well.

You obviously Don't know Gene Smith. He's a real nice guy who is an empty suit as an AD. He's lucky he still has a job.

I actually get a chuckle out of this thread. OSU self reports and gets bashed. Read the violations. Some are down right silly.

Gordon Gee is generally regarded as one of the top educators in the country. It's true. Flippant he is but students love him and he generates incredible fundraising skills.

    Buckrock

  • I could care less about the violations, except the recruiting video. The AD has to know his school is under probation and has to know that making the video was illegal to the NCAA. Yet, he did and just self-reported it, so as Urban would say "its all good."

Gene Smith and that Gordon or whatever that clown that wear a bowtie are extremely arrogant people to those people that do not care for OSU. Presidents and ADs are arrogant in nature, but these guys think what happened with Tatgate and any other violations was a joke. The arrogance to think they were not going to get hit with penalties from tatgate is laughable.

You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game, life or football-the margin for error is so small. -Pacino

I don't think anyone will sit here and say that Gee doesn't warrant accolades and isn't great at what he does, but I'm sure you understand how some just view him as a total asshat.
As for the violations, we understand that MOST of them are nothing. But no one is wrong in pointing out the hypocrisy of Meyer's statements about secondary violations and his actions and response now that he a coach for you guys.
I won't sit here and say Meyer is lying and that there was more to his encounter with Noah Spence than a simple "good luck" after all, we as Penn Staters have had to deal with many outsiders just assuming the worst out of people and then condemning based on those unfounded assumptions.
The only thing I truly have an issue with is the Gene Smith video violation. Posters on this site know that is a violation. Smith absolutely knew full well what he was doing. That was nothing more than a calculated act of defiance for the rules. Do your best to close the deal wih a big recruit, and then just self-report the secondary violation and receive no punishment. THAT is an action that should have consequence. (ESPECIALLY since you are already on probation)

Some have acknowledged the worthlessness of some of the violations.

However, Meyer did not just say "Good Luck" to Spence, and there is photographic evidence of that.

The video involving Gene Smith is a big problem, IMO. Asshole doesn't care about the rules, even when the football program is under the microscope.

This could also describe Jerry Sandusky before November...

Before the November revelations JS was as respected as Gee has been stated in the previous post, just not as an educator. I think the op is insinuating that we don't really know what is behind the curtain with Gee, just like JS.

Sandusky was considered a father figure/overall good guy before the allegations surfaced.. Not the greatest comparison in the world I guess... However, I will say that if he is guilty, he fooled A LOT of people.

Sure. I just think it's in incredibly poor taste to compare Gee to Sandusky.

I guess. Maybe just say you never know what could be hiding in his closet...

Either way, I still don't really care about all this. It's OSU's issue, we don't know what PSU's violations list looks like, but I think if it looked like this, many would say they don't matter much either. (this doesn't go to against you 2011, just my thoughts in general). Just my opinion.

And glad you didn't take offense to my opinion on that comparison cheers

danmcc, I respectfully disagree. Not as a Buck fan. For years there were open rumors at PSU about JS's behavior. Nothing negative about Gordon Gee except media clips with his off the wall quotes. One was a coach the other a College President. Big difference. Look at Gee's resume (Google it). Epic as a College President.

Peace PSU Nation. Better times ahead.

Not sure what you mean there were open rumors about Sandusky at PSU. That is wrong. Dont know how you legitimately would know anyways. Sandusky has everyone fooled. He adopted a bunch of kids, started a youth charity for troubled kids, seemed innocent, etc...We now know we all were duped.

If there were rumors about Sandusky for years, then I am sure more of the message board crazies across the PSU sites would've brought it up. I believe rumors only started coming when these investigations behind the scenes started. Believe what you want though.

    1. I was responding to a poster who didn't quite understand the OP's point. My post was an interpretation not an opinion

    2. Quote from my post "Just not as an educator", I think that was pretty clear not needing your response of "One was a coach the other a college president. Big difference". I'll give you a pass on that one seeing as how the post was made at a late hour and your posts here are generally benign compared to some of the OSU asshats that troll here, but it seems pretty easy reading comprehension.

    3. So taking out the equivalence of occupations (see #2), PRIOR to November, JS exceptional in his field=Gee the same, JS very good fund raiser=Gee the same, JS well respected in the community=Gee the same.

After November is a different story for JS. So to the OP's point we never know what is behind the curtain with anybody, it may be good or very bad. Until the curtain gets pulled back we will never know.

A good friend of mine is a PSU booster and a member of the Letterman's Association. He told me 6-7 years ago that there were concerns about JS and the Second Mile as it relates to kids. Troubling concerns. He also said that PSU was distancing itself from the organization. I would never doubt his word when it comes to PSU football. That is where I heard about the rumors.

Don't believe this for a second. So let me get this straight, PSU boosters were discussing rumors that Sandusky was sexually assaulting children with random OSU fans and none of them ever bothered to come over and flame about it. Right . . . . . ???? Let's face it, there's an OSU fan over here every month explaining how LJ is racist and that's the only reason he is a good recruiter. But nobody ever bothered to bring up Pedo State jokes before the indictment actually came out.

LOL. When the Patriot-News broke the story, it blindsided just about everybody. Why people want to revise history to be "in the know" is beyond me.
