  • and for anyone around a tv it will be on ESPNEWS at the same time

    bluey

  • they just had a teaser...basically 1) how could we possibly win 8 games 2) they plan on asking him if he is looking for a new job

    bluey

  • Just heard it too as I was driving back to the office. Look forward to hearing OB!

    CharlestonLion

  • I think he was either on Sirius XM College Sports Nation today or he will be on soon too. Just heard a couple commercial breaks that OB was going to be on, but still havent heard anything about it. They did some short sound bytes likes he was on earlier, but I thought they meant a live interview.

  • Don't believe he is going anywhere, but sure didn't love the way he answered the question about staying.

    All4PSU

  • Updates on what questions were asked and his answers would be appreciated for those at work. Link is blocked for me. :/

  • It's called leverage, he has it. They PSU needs to address his bowl pay now.

  • Commented about strong Sr. Class great group of guys, McGolin smart competitor made him starter after spring ball. Easier to recruit now vs just taking job knows PSU better, knows the campus, lots for a recruit to look at on TV, tradition, great education. Asked about being the HC at PSU, OB was annoyed you could tell by his tone. He said I plan on being the HC at Penn State. Was asked a second time OB said, I don't deal in hypetheticals I plan on being the coach at PSU

  • Q:What are you most proud of?
A: Senior class and how they came together....how they kept the team together, decided to stay
Q: Matt McGloin, what did you see in him?
A: Competitive kid, Very bright kid, put the time in- had a nice year for us
Q: You are in high demand, how certain are you that you will be there next year?
A: I plan on being the head football coach at Penn State. I'm focussed on recruiting, i deal in the real world not speculation. I enjoy coaching here, i plan on being the head football coach here.
Q: Whats the message in recruiting? What are you selling?
A: Great education. 100k fan stadium, even though we cant play in bowl games. Alot to play for. Alot to sell here.
Q: How is recruiting easier this year after a year under your belt?
A: Know the place better now, understand academics. Better feel for football team and needs.
Q: What did it mean to throw the 42 on the helmet for Mauti?
A: Seniors came to him with the idea to do something for Mauti, approved it and thought it was a great gesture.

I listened to that interview. Basicly the same thing as SVP except for the first time I actually heard him address individual players that left. He talked about how he had great relationships with Silas, Justin Brown, and Fera. He stated he had no animosity towards them cause they did what they felt was best for them which he respects.

  • I may be nickpicking here..but I plan to be...always throws me....not saying that implies he is gone, but it is the consistent line he has used in the interviews I have heard...it is just him hedging his bets in case something does happen.

I hope you are right, but there are some deep pocketed owners of pro teams that if they want him they will open their book or PSU will be paying him.... Jerry Jones...new Browns' owner...etc. I hope he just stays and does not end up him gone or a Les Miles situations where he gets a hefty raise and an extension.

Not,necessarily... It means he plans to coach here and full fill his contract... Thats HIS plan... If the AD, or admin make a move and decide he is not the right man for the job, then he won't be the coach... But thats not his plan....in order to continue to be the coach, both sides must want the relationship to continue... Its not solely his decision, so how can he say for 100% that he will be the coach here, when there is another party that needs to come to the same conclusion to make it happen?

The more I hear it, the more I'm beginning to think this will always be his answer whether he's here 2 years or 20 years. He seems to be a man of high integrity, but also that he may have some other things on his list (like NFL HC at some point), so the answer is simply quit asking me, and if you press, I'm here right now and that's all I'll say. Never wants a Saban type moment where he looks point blank in the camera and says one thing, then does the other 5 minutes later.

Nah, not seeing the NFL to come calling when there are so many others out there. And even then, I think he wants to stay and build this program from scratch. Not to mention his son Jack... Don't forget that. A lot going on in the way of him not going anywhere... I think he wants more money though. The sanctions make him want to re-negotiate IMO. And IMO if he has a similar year next year, he's earned more $$$ (I think he's earned more money already, but I think he will probably have to prove that it wasn't a fluke in order to really earn it). And I wouldn't be surprised to see him get an extra couple mil after next year.

Yes, one year is one year and he has been on other's radars for awhile. All I am saying is that it is away to protect himself in case he does make moves. How much do you up his salary tho? Is he on the SEC Saban / Miles pay scale of 4 - 5 million a year?

    Goalieman688

  • I Like Coach O'Brien, but when he say's "We understand why the sanctions are in place" that's B.S. because the team should not be playing under sanctions.

MIght be a bit much right now but PSU should probably bump him to the $3-3.5 million dollar range with incentives but in doing so make sure it is clear that his buyout is for the length of his entire contract.

Ya this really bothers me too. I think it's just a line he throws out there b/c people already have their minds made up about what happened.

I think he has been coached up and is told to answer this way. I truly believe he and others believe that we can get the sanctions lessened if we just go along and put up a show (like the Mitchell Reports) that we are improving our "athletics over academics" culture (which everyone knows is BS, except those with a vendetta against PSU, as we were known as the model to the NCAA to show what academics and athletics should look like).

Big difference between understanding why they're there and agreeing w the decision. We all understand why they're there, and it has little to do w NCAA policy.
