  • I think Northwestern will prove to be a little overrated and soft. After Mauti smacks em right up under the chin, we'll see how tough they are.

If we can catch them. Ohio had a very similar offense and we struggled mightily. Granted, things are different now, but the Ohio game still stands as something we struggled with.

I look forward to seeing how we are in this game. It should be really exciting.

  • This is the game when the offense needs to kill the sloppiness. If they get inside the 20 or 30 yard line of the opponent, they'd better get points. I know it's tough with Ficken doing what he does, but you can't afford to throw a pick or something.

NW will be a tough out. I think we can do it. I believe both the players and coaches have improved since Ohio.

  • NW might very well he the best team we've faced, but we're by far the best D they've seen. I would expect them to rack up about half of that 700 yd outburst from the Indiana game. Won't be a problem as long as they're starting their drives inside their own 25-30.

  • How is the D, I think our D will put the brakes on that O to some degree, but how long is going to depend on how the O produces points and eats up clock.

Northwestern D is 11 of 12 in B10 in yardage (379.0 per game), first in rush defense (90.0 ypg, 3.3 ypc) and 12th in pass defense (289 ypg). Allowing 20.5 first downs and 20.6 points per game.

Based on the stats, I'd say go Houston on them. Just pass it until they stop it.

But realistically, I think we can and will run it on them.

  • Northwestern is going to score some points and get their yardage. I fear our secondary will be exposed this weekend. That being said, the combination of their really bad defense and our steadily improving offense leads me to bill-lieve they will not be able to score enough. The only way I can see this game getting away from us is if we start giving them short fields via turnovers and bad special teams play. If we avoid the turnovers, we could legitimately hang 50 on 'em. Their "D" is that bad.

This game will be an interesting contrast to how we've played defense in the past. Against these types of teams, we have always been happy (and usually very successful) giving these teams their yards but limiting their points. How will the new defensive system stack up?

  • This defense struggles against teams that have mobile qbs and teams that can run a zone read and get to the outside. Psu defense will struggle this week. Psu offense really needs to dominate on the ground or its a loss.

I am more worried about seeing how Roof's schemes handle things. Leaves a lot of wholes with some of the things he has done so far. Im not worried about our secondary being 'exposed" talent wise at all barring injury. Have some good players back there.

If we are going to bring pressure and have a safety, be it Fagano, Willis, SOA, or we find a way to bring Eric Berry in, on a WR man up, we better have that pressure get there.

    Scheelhase really dominated us.

I think if Hodges or Hull spies Colter, we will seriously slow down their O.

Captain Research must have missed the fact that he took half as many snaps at QB as their other kid did last game. He caught 9 balls for 131. He'll be all over the field. Likely not primarily at QB based on how we contained Illinois' read option. Another week, another out of his ass analysis. Keep em coming dude. We're all learning a lot.

So which of our three wins came against immobile QB's?

I personally think Amos should be used as a spy. Colter on any LB, even Hull or Hodges, is a mismatch.

Man you are a total Fnn. Tool! Scheelhaas is the the exact "mobile qb" that you emplore in this pathetic post. Scheelhaase had 11 yds. on 7 carriers. Didn't fare that well in the passing game either.

Kain Colter is not Scheelhaase. He's a multi-position offensive threat. Yes. I agree that he will be tougher to defend than Scheelhaase, but quit being so overdramatic and one-dimentional in you over critical subjective, dismal analyses of PSU FB.

Your are such a Debbie downer.

And then new era posts and I remember.

  • I think we match up ok against NW. Agree that this is the best team we've faced so far, but even with losses via sanctions I still think we have more overall talent. That said we can't afford to miss scoring opportunities. Lets hope the kicking game doesn't bite us in the a$$

Colter runs more then anything and is not a great passer at all. We slow them down if we make him in the pocket.

Yeah, thats just one facet where Colter IS NOT Scheelhaase. But he's gonna be a lot harder to defend than Scheelhaase was, IMHO
