  • Any ND fan that thought they had a chance in this game was being delusional. Bama is on another level, and ND got into this game by a series of flukes and a poor schedule (only good win was against Stanford and that was before Hogan took over and they started playing well).

That said, ND fans should still be excited. They are clearly headed in the right direction with a great head coach. They'll have their shot.

  • They shouldn't even be considered for the NCG until they join a conference.

After this performance, I don't think that will be an issue going forward.

  • Now that this thrashing is all but over, maybe the media can look into the alledged rape cover up involving football players.

  • In their defense, they couldn't help that they had the easy schedule. Going into the season it was regarded as the toughest in the country bar none, and that they would be lucky to go 8-4.

That defense came out of nowhere and proved a lot of people wrong, but they have a ways to go before they will win a title IMO. Their QB has a lot of growing up to do.

I wouldn't say that is automatic.

Bama will be there; LSU will be there; Texas A&M will be there; Oregon will be there and probably the scumbags from Columbus.

Notre Dame got exposed badly ... it loses Reddick; Eifert; three starting OLmen; Lewis-Moore, Te'o, Fox and Motta. It depends on what the backups are like.

i think they lose more than that too, I thought two WR's.....yea - they squeaked by some games - they just don't have the offense or physical defense to be a top 10 team

They lose two complementary receivers that won't be too hard to replace - Goodman and the kid with the last name beginning with a T.

LSU will not be there. There is an exodus from there for some reason.

LSU has tremendous depth ... alot of national media have said they will be there, even with the early declarations.

You know it and I know it, but we're talking ND here. THE media darling. There will be so much hype this off season about how "they're back" it will be impossible to escape. It will not be rational. You could hear it starting already last night from Musberger and Herbie.

I predict a top 5 ranking, certainly no lower than 10, and a couple of pre-season all americans. I don't know their roster that well, but don't need to. It's Notre Dame.

Maybe I'll be surprised and I hope I am, but if there is one thing that is certain about CFB is that ND has always been over-hyped, and with some success now the story will go through the roof.

That's a direct quote from a facebook post of one of my friends who is a huge ND fan. Underdogs? against Navy? Pitt?

I disagree about ND's schedule. They had a very tough schedule with no cupcakes. Their SOS was stronger than Bama's. ND beat 9 teams who appeared in bowl game. Another would have been Miami had they not banned themselves. Is there another team with more? Yes they were overrated and maybe not a top 2 team but they played a very challenging schedule and deserved to be in the championship game.

"Very tough" is not the description I'd use. It's true that they didn't have as many cupcakes as Bama, but many of the teams they played were mediocre BCS teams. And they barely squeaked by several of those.

EDIT: Just as a note, I really hate it when people act as if a "bowl team" is a big deal. Come on, now. The fact is that many teams can have 2 wins in conference and still go to a bowl. Big East teams can theoretically win one conference game and still go to a bowl. Pathetic.

That is all fine and dandy. But, when you look at that schedule at the end of the season compared to what it looked like at the beginning, its not that strong of a slate.

    Terrible: Wake and BC
Bad Bowl teams: Pitt (got major break in that game - should have lost), USC, Purdue, Navy
Average Bowl Teams: Sparty, Michigan, BYU
Only Good wins: Oklahoma and Stanford (got a major break in that game)

Miami - average team I guess.

Wasn't a very challenging schedule when you look at it.

PSU is better than ND, especially the team we saw play last night

They beat 10 bowl eligible teams with a .500 or better record. Who else has done that? I don't even want to defend ND but I was responding to someone who said their schedule was poor. It wasn't.

schedule wasn't poor, but it as good as people are making when you look at it when you break it down. PSU could have easily gone 10-2 with that schedule and quite frankly, on paper, it was a more difficult schedule than PSU had.

Purdue and Pitt were bowl teams that finished with a losing record .. is that something to be proud of?
