No college football for me this year.

I've been wondering how I'll react that first Saturday. I haven't been able to watch any of the warm up shows on ESPN so far so I don't think I'll be watching a ton of cfb. That said, cfb has always been my favorite sport so we'll see what happens. I do know I won't miss a second of PSU though.

Same here. Last year at this time, I would've been watcing the BTN's preview of each team in the conference and reading a part of Phil Steele's preview magazine every night. This year I haven't had any interest in watching those shows, and the Phil Steele magazine has been collecting dust since the NCAA sanctions.

I am with Sluggo and RR... I like football, but LOVE Penn State.. never been a guy to have "another team", or "hope XXX runs the table in the SEC", even before all this mess, I only ever cared about PSU... I want PSU to win every game, and want every other team to lose every game.... I will support our guys, our program... will be watching every game on Saturday, reading this board all day every day, and will make it to a couple game this season... but I wont be watching ESPN or BTN unless we are on it... To think ESPN doesn't care about a few hundred fans not watching is not the point... thats like saying you don't vote because, "its only one vote, it doesnt matter anyway"...

Notorious I take your view of things. Maybe a little perspective why - I worked for a time in Kansas City with some other Big Ten fans around the time PSU joined the conference. They never accepted PSU to the point that when I moved to take another position in Indiana, one day in the mail I get a box from one of the Michigan fans. He had bought one of the Big Ten small helmet collectors kit and he sent me the PSU helmet. Sorry but its well established and earned by now, not simply from this anectdotal story (undefeated seasons, this latest screw job)..They gave no quarter, they get no quarter..simple as that.. Don't get me wrong, I don't wally in it. I am optimistic about us, how much fun it will be to watch us develop this year and beyond..But it is only about us... 100%

  • I'll watch Penn State. Will have a tough time watching the Big Ten. Will be too frustrating to watch MSU/Purdue/Iowa/NE/IL - how craptastic they are. And being reminded of the whole 'incident.'

Maybe drive around SEC country. Should be a competitive year. Want to go to UVA/PSU and Knoxville. May go to the Vandy South Carolina game in a few weeks. Oh yeah, I'll watch the Alabama/UMich game.

Now that I think about it, the approach will be: Avoid TV talking heads and go to games live.

  • I havent really watchd CFB Live or any of the other CFB preview shows lately, not because I am trying to "stick it" to anybody, just that it hurts to watch all these other teams where everything is going so well for them, their cheating, their on the verge of a MNC season, etc...

You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game, life or football-the margin for error is so small. -Pacino

I hope you're not insinuating that my liking other schools means i love PSU any less. That'd be like saying I can't like Mexican food because I LOVE Italian. I have been in fights with other grown men, as a grown man with an assault record who cannot take those chances anymore...all while relatively sober! The reason being a few UVA alums got mouthy about the JoePa tap on my kegerator. I love PSU, but I love college football too. Life isn't fair, why should we expect the NCAA to be? Time to move on.

  • College Football is like a hobby of mine, way better the pro football. The other teams didn't do this to us. One Monster and a "Complete Asshole" acting as the God and Jury did this, out of fear from Media pressure.

  • No way....you're crazy! I love college football more than any other sport. I'll watch college football even if there isn't any PSU football. I love the game too much to not watch it outside of solely PSU.

  • I honestly can't answer this until 9/1. I will say that I've avoided all CFB leadup programming just because I don't want to hear any more negative about us. Will I watch as much non-PSU this season? I really can't say until I'm in the moment. Right now it's still painful and sore. That might change once the season begins. But like someone said, it will be very difficult to watch cheating programs lauded on television while we're "shamed".

  • I got the SI College Football Preview yesterday. I couldn't read it. Just threw it away.

  • I'm fired up and can't wait for the season. First off, I will always watch and love PSU, even if they go 0-12. Secondly, there are many teams that I simply like to see lose and every weekends have underdogs that are fun to root for. College football is great, despite what we are going through right now. I can't tell you how depressed I get once February rolls around. I hate that month. upset

I love it better than any other sport, however knowing the talk will not die anytime soon over recent events is what will limit my viewing of other games. I'm looking forward to the 7 Saturdays this fall that I'll be sitting with 108,000 others who will all be cheering on our fellow lions and not having to listen to the negative national publicity. cheers

  • The whole thing with college football will not be quite the same this year for me. The days where I am able to watch games I definitely enjoy it. The contrasting part is remembering it is just a game and the larger picture will be put more in focus. Do not get me wrong I am a passionate fan. This year though I hope to be a better fan and bring more than just cheers to a game. I want to bring an understanding perspective as well.

  • For me, college football gives me insight into the pros. Just like I love recruiting, I also love the draft. To become familiar with the players who may be entering the draft requires me to watch as much college football as I can. Obviously, I love Penn State, but I also love football in general, so I watch any games I can. I am a little anal about games too, as I love to record them, and break down certain players who are of interest to me. For example, I have 4 Baylor games on DVR from last year, and I watched each one at least twice to be able to really familiarize myself with Griffins game. I did the same with Oklahoma and Arkansas, as I was a fan of Landry Jones and Tyler Wilson. Even though I hate them, I watched a ton of USC games last year because I love Robert Woods. I also watched a lot of Alabama, because I stole some of their defensive ideas for our high school team.

For me(besides PSU), college football is more about players and schemes, than it is about rooting for another team.

Honestly didn't watch a game this year. Mind you I listened to pretty much every game on a local PSU radio station that streamed online and lived through the in game threads.......Half marks I guess, couldn't stay away completely though, this team was just to inspirational. Still haven't clicked on ESPN and rarely visit the other major sports sites. Good thing about living in Canada I guess, can visit our sites that never had much to say on the issue. Truthfully have not watched much in the way of sports at all as I only really ever watched CFB and NHL with any loyalty and both screwed that up this year. banghead

  • I probably watched about 20% of what I normally do. When given the choice between a football game and a soccer game this year, soccer won 9 times out of 10. My pick'em leagues suffered accordingly.

I definitely watched less than usual, but gradually more as the season wore on. It helped that we were winning, it would have been too difficult if we were 4-8 instead of 8-4. That said, I want nothing to do with bowl season. I don't expect to watch anything but the MNC game. My tolerance for hypocrisy in December the next 4 years is not going to be very high at all.

Pretty much the same here. Watched all of our games but did not watch another game in its entirety. Watched a good bit of the UGA/Bama game. Other than that I probably did not watch more than a quarter of any other game. Might watch part of a bowl game here and there but will be rooting for Bama to take ND to the wood shed:)

  • I watched our games, as I said I would. Snuck a peak here and there on others. But sat through no others. All I know about the rest of the NCAA Football season is what I read in the papers.

    Nittany Sluggo

  • I ended up watching about 50% less than I normally do. As for bowls, I'll watch the national champ and probably the Rose to watch Wisky get smashed. The big ten going 0 for would be hilarious though.

    PSU17

  • Watched a few more games than just PSU, but not all that much. Enjoyed seeing USC fall to pieces a few times, Stanford got robbed against ND. Wife wanted to watch aTm beat Alabama (she likes chaos in the BCS). Maybe a few other games, most of which were in the background.

  • saw all PSU games
    watched Bama/UGA

saw a few series of various Big Ten games (usually would try to take a look at the team we were playing next), but never close to a full game.

That is it. Big time college football junkie that just could not get into it this year.

    POV

  • Watched parts of other games each week but never another game from start to finish. Watched all of our games twice and plan on watching some again to get my bowl fix.
