so, you honestly believe a first year head coach who prides himself on being direct, open and transparent...is flat out lying to recruits and parents?

If you want to call these non-committable offers "lies", then the answer is yes

    jetli

  • It's not at all unreasonable to remove an offer after 2 LBs commit and it's definitely not lying. Dajuan drennon is a good example of a kid they liked wanted and offered but eventually wouldn't bring on.

all of you are missing the statement that was made..the statement was we are taking 4 or 5 more LB's..that's the lie I'm referring to..I already know about the situations with guys like Lemelle and Buddy Brown..I'm talking about saying you are taking 4 when u really end up taking 6..that's a flat lie to me..that's what i'm talking about

Yep I can see him doing that as well. They plan on taking 4. If one or two ( though I really don't see them taking 6 no matter what) that are elite talents come along and they choose to take him as well, thats smart. Idc if its a lie, I hope he does it.

yeah, OK..good luck with that strategy

    Nick Saban says thank you.

You don't turn away elite talent if you can find the room. That leads to losing which gets you fired.

lol, yeah and that's just the way PSU does it..the Saban way..but in all reality, Saban has earned the right to do that..BOB, not so fast my friend

    So you think if:

Bell,Benton,Bradshaw,Issah are committed and either Trey or Anzo says "coach I want to come to Penn State" they'll say no ro they should say no?

BOB doesn't have the right to add more LBs than needed?

I mean, BOB already turned down Drennon after letting him visit but would have taken Allen. It's how recruiting works, sometimes you tell someone one thing and then circumstances change.

I know you are sharp enought to realize Issah won't be a part of this class, arent you? you take 6 LB's and you basically screw your LB recruiting for the next few years..so, no it makes no sense to me..you write off FERNS instantly for 2014..cause essentially Issah and Bradshaw are similiar types to FERNS who could play either side of the ball..JMO

I don't believe he will be. I don't think they take six (I've said that in this thread). I do know Ferns is being recruited for TE.

YOU still did not answer the question. Lets try it this way:

If Bell, Benton, Bradshaw, and Anzo are all committed and Trey decides he wants to come to PSU do you think they will or should turn him down?

  • Telling a kid you plan on a class of 4 LBs and then adding an elite prospect on top of those is far from lying. I don't know if u guys have noticed this but players often change positions during college. If u can bring in an elite athlete u do it. Can't believe people are back on their high horses just 6 months removed from one of the most horrifying things I've ever heard of.

Ferns is being recruited as a TE by Penn State.

my money says if you tell kids one thing and do something completely opposite of what you told them alond with their family, you run the risk of kids not standing strong to the committment and I wouldn't blame them ONE bit

clearly, my point is that he can play both ways, just like some think about Issah and Bradshaw, which if you take BOTH, you are essentially saying well if you don't work out as LB we can slide you over..AND taking 6 LB's would clearly indicate that message

My money says if a kid is mad/scared enough you brought on elite talent late in the game he's scared of compeition, not worried about the team as a whole, lacks confidence in himself, and is a me player. But who knows.

If a kid is going to run away because of competition, let him run. You are overthinking this. You get the best players possible. If a kid comes into the fold late and he can help the team, you take him. Clearly, you aren't going to go nuts with it (signing 3 QBs for example), but if you go over your need by one, that is not an issue.

  • Especially if some of the other candidates have the potential to play other positions. This kind of flexibility is a real plus with injuries, etc. always a possibility.

my initial response was to the guy who commented that we take 4 or 5 more on top of the two we already have which would be 6 and 7 max...I know you said you don't believe we take six..duly noted. As a parent, If you tell me and my kid, hey you guys better jump on board..hurry up back from Honduras cause this door is about to shut..and then that door doesn't shut..well, that would be a problem for me. I don't KNOW what BOB will do, but time will tell
