New Rally Information! Please Read!

  • IMPORTANT!!!!!! All Penn Staters are invited to join with us at a rally before the Ohio State game, a gathering intended to make clear that many alums and fans alike are both supporters of Coach O’Brien’s football program and thinking people who are unable to stomach the series of disastrous decisions made by the Board of Trustees and President Erickson during the past year--and earlier. They have caused serious damage to the University they were supposed to protect, and need to find something else to do with their spare time.

The gathering will feature trustee Anthony Lubrano and the leaders of the first Rally For Resignations. This event will be less rhetorical than the first one, and more substantive, offering specific suggestions for action. And a Q & A will be provided.

It will take place on the East lawn of the IM Building, on the Northwest corner of Curtin Road and University Drive, at 2:00 PM on Saturday.

Anyone who might be willing to assist us in distributing flyers in the stadium parking areas on Saturday starting at 11:30, please email me at loonielion@gmail.com and let me know how many folks you can bring. Nobody will be asked to work an a parking area alone.

  • Good luck,

    Rally in the Valley II.

Get em David, still waiting for a response from a BOT member to my multiple letters, got a response from the staff member saying how pleased I would be with their actions, NOT. I did let her know that, but she refused to respond to that one. Much the same way Peetz seems to shut down discenting opinions during open mic sessions of BOT meetings.

  • Folks, this is important! We've learned that there are "litter rules" for Beaver Stadium and the surrounding parking lots, so we are not going to be using flyers around the stadium on Saturday. Instead, we're printing up a ton of two-sided business cards with info about both the rally itself and the virtual escrow program. Soooo, if you'd like to help us contact people about the rally, let us know that you're coming and show up outside the entrance of the PSU baseball stadium at 11:30 AM on Saturday and we'll give you the materials that you need. Thank you.

I guess I should warn you, if I turn out to be particularly clear, you've probably misunderstood what I've said.

  • I understand that you are mad, and you have every right to be. But there is nothing good that will come from this. The BOT is not going anywhere and Erickson is not going anywhere until he retires in a year. The admin knows that people are not happy... they don't care. It's time to move on. Seriously.

  • I share your anger toward the way things went down, but this is on the verge of becoming really sad and pathetic. You're holding a rally in the yard of the IM building? Not exactly a million man march. You're going to be like those old guys from Pottsville that petition the NFL every year to award the 1925 NFL Championship to the Maroons. It's over, man.

    HolyLion

  • Just curious, what do you think specifically will result from this?

    kpf5058

  • Specifically? Nothing. We didn't expect a slew of trustees to resign after the first rally, and don't expect it after this gathering. However, my experiences with hundreds of alums over the past several weeks indicate to me that the anger is widespread, and we need to provide some hope that the story is not yet finished. There will be legal happenings soon which might change the landscape significantly.

Oh, and I think that our old guard trustees need constant reminders that a lot of Penn State supporters really think they have failed miserably.

We actually can both support the football program and protest the damage caused by this board. The past is done--we can't do anything about it. However, many of us have absolutely no faith in the ability of this group of business titans to decide anything for Penn State, so the future is what we're most concerned about.

And HolyLion, the IM lawn is plan B--I'll say no more. We do what we can with what we've got.

Think of it as a Joe Frazier body blow to Mohammad Ali. Nothing of note came from any given body blow. But Ali could feel each hit just a bit. And then.........

Question: Did you participate in Occupy Wall Street?

    Thanks.

The same thing that online petitions accomplish. Same thing occupy wall street accomplishes.

As my dad used to say, you can poop in one and and wish in the other......

It just looks sad and silly and like a culture problem the longer this goes on. But by all means, be there with your cardboard cut outs of Joe and your Freeh Stooges shirts. The right to assembly and free speech is why America is #1

He had nothing specific to accomplish, or expected to be accomplished, other than protest and backhanded businessmen.

    Sounded like a match.

    Nothing specific to accomplish? What?

    Not even remotely close

The "occupy wall street" (or whatever) was not a constituency of anyone they were "protesting" (or whatever). Furthermore, OWS had no goals -- long or short.

Rally for Resignation, while perhaps they don't expect resignations immediately following a rally, have a hard and legitimate goal to keep the pressure applied, keep the BoT aware that there are many OF THEIR CONSTITUENTS that aren't happy with the job they're doing, and have the hard goal to get as many resignations -- from the old guard, specifically -- as possible.

OWS "protesters" had no idea what they were even protesting.

He said it himself. He expects nothing specifically to come from this. Theyy have no real plan other than to rabble rouse and try to support Paterno (say what you want, David followed up last time with a ton of pro Paterno stuff). They have no real plan, no course of action. Its a shill. They are playing to lose. And its a shame because its the good cause. Every BOT member that was in office when the investigation was made public (in the spring) should be let go.

    MTayl72

  • I agree that this is a good cause and that this particular rally won't make any trustee resign, but it is good to keep the heat on and the alumni unified. I'm a current student and I'm not ready to just move on. The football program will be fine, but the leadership in Old Main scares the hell out of me. They need to go.

So, if they resign in say.....8 years, will that be a victory for you? Everyone will resign at some point....so if you aren't trying to get resignations now, I guess I don't understand the point.....

As some of your fellow posters said, I'd move on.... the longer PSU fans keep all this alive, the longer the "outsiders" will continue to keep it alive as well...

Contrary to what you may believe, some of us really don't care what outsiders think. I don't live my life that way, and it's a shame that far too many people involved in this worried more about what you thought than what actual Penn Staters thought and felt.

Something I'd suggest you stay the f*ck out of here boss. I have no issue with you in general, but this is a can of something you don't want to open.

Just an FYI.... Expecting nothing SPECIFICALLY to come from this PARTICULAR rally != Not having a goal. They have a goal. They have a very CLEAR goal (unlike OWS). You might not believe their approach will be effective, long or short term -- and that's your right, and nobody is telling you that you shouldn't think that way -- but they DO have a goal.

I have doubts that their approach will lead to any results (resignations) as well, but 1) I don't have a better idea; and 2) Their goal, to encourage BoT members to resign, is a DAMN ADMIRABLE AND BENEFICIAL one.

So, while you may not see any value in supporting them -- I get that -- I don't see how there is value in discouraging, or disparaging, them either.
