Derrick Dooley is coaching Tennessee. That may become PSU. A once proud power that got rid of a great coach for something better but nothing better came through the door. Instead you have Derrick Dooley.

Sorry to be the one to say this, but PSU did not get rid of Joe to go after someone better..Joe got fired..

  • I think Saban had power at LSU and Miami and he still left!

Sorry but Joe didn't get fired because the BOT wanted to get rid of him, he got fired because the BOT didn't have the balls to not get rid of him.

The more rational PSU fans who have already enumerated the reasons why Saban won't go to Penn State (or anywhere else but retirement) are all spot on, but there is one other really big thing he has at Alabama that Penn State would never, could never, give him, and that is this:

    Power. Pure, unadulterated, absolute power.

Never again will Penn State allow the head football coach to have so much power as Joe Paterno had...

Really? There are strong rumors that JoePa tried to get Sandusky banned from campus, and then when that was denied, banned from the football facilities but was also denied that by Curley or Spanier because he "didn't have the authority to do so." If true, this whole theory you and others are espousing that "JoePa's unchecked power was at the heart of the Sandusky scandal" will be turned upside down.

I didnt say they handled it the right way.. I was reponding to a poster who compared our situation with Joe to Tennessee's with Fulmer.. Joe didnt get shown the door because we wanted a fresh start in our football program.. Get off your high horse..

They are only rumors for a reason.

My biggest fear is we end up like Notre Dame, forever talking about how great we used to be, and burning through coach after coach chasing our past glory.

    Umm, we already are that.

Why would the AD care that a bunch of former players don't like how long it takes to get a coach. Former players don't have that kind of pull at OSU and I doubt they do at PSU.

I thought that Laschout was convinced that you all had already selected your coach but had to wait before announcing. Now he is saying that a group of former players are upset that a coach hasn't been named yet.

Does he really know anything or does he have a former player as a source and now that source is starting to look bad and now Laschout is back tracking?

Good questions. I had similar thoughts regarding why LO doesn't come out and say the animosity is unwarranted; we should be patient.

  • LO is a group of guys who have a source or sources that say it's a grand slam. I don't think they know if it's 100% true or who the next head coach is.

That's fine, but to the average person their articles may be viewed as backtracking, which is not good for the overall sentiment. All some people hear is terms like "grand slam" and "moonshot" and they immediately start dreaming of NC's and before they allow themselves to come back to reality for a moment they see this article. I personally don't believe they are backtracking because they are just reporting that alumni, letterman, etc., are getting antsy not that they don't think they know who the next coach will be. At least they haven't publicly admitted they don't and why would they if they now have new info. It would leave them with egg on their face.
