New Eagles DC named

  • Billy Davis, stinks like Rob Ryan.

@Jimmy_Beast: In 3 out of 4 seasons as a DC in the NFL, Billy Davis' defenses finished 30th or worse in points allowed.

@Jimmy_Beast: Eagles new defensive coordinator Billy Davis’ statistical resume: Proceed reading with caution

  • Yeah, I am very confused and concerned. Not exactly what I was picturing. I am interested to hear Chip's take on this guy.

Keeping Vick for now is irrelevant the $3 mil he's owed will be fronted to Eagles by the next team that signs him.

Yep. There's no way the Eagles are keeping Vick. He'll be sent to some team looking to sell tickets. Unfortunately for them, he will tap the pen that he just signed his contract with on his and and will get a concussion.

  • This move makes no sense. How many years do you spend in the NFL without producing before somebody gets the message that you can't hack it? The Eagles take a guy who's only other offer is that of a LB's coach? There were so many better candidates they could have gone after, this makes no sense.

I didn't mind the Shurmer move because he addressed a gap in Kelly's offensive coaching. He's not going to be running the offense as much as help gameplan and coach up the QB's.

  • No way they were hiring this crap bag either.... Why be an Eagles fan? Another year no title.

Timing says a lot. 3 weeks no hire wait til after the Super Bowl and this guy, no dice.

I hate to break it to you Phila, but there is no way that we were doing that regardless of who they hired.

This is a terrible move. I think a reason for it is that Davis runs that under 4-3 which is close to a 3-4 but doesn't require true 3-4 personel (something the Eagles aren't even close to having). I would rather they hire a true 3-4 guy and just take their lumps this year.

Chip better anticipate scoring 35 a game, because that is the only way we will win.

I will just say that the Pat Shurmer move was excellent. He's a really good offensive coach... A+ hire, IMO.

In the NFL today any bad year must be a playoff team the next year then the following 3 are win a title or fire people until you get it right. The model is tried and true. Every team who follows it wins.

I get what you are saying, but do you understand just how terrible the talent level is in Philly right now? At least 6 of the defensive starters need to be run out of town (probably closer to 8), the whole OL needs to be re-tooled and we likely need a QB. There are only four units that are okay... K/P, WR, RB and TE (barely). Everything else stinks.

I don't care who you get to coach, this isn't a one year rebuild. This is a 3 year effort before you can even start realistically think of doing something in the playoffs (unless Chip can make the offense score 35+ points every game... unlikely).

This is the worst talent I have seen in Philly since Ray Rhodes last year in 98.

The Eagles could have assembled the greatest coaching staff in the history of football and they still wouldn't win a Super Bowl this upcoming season.

I disagree. This team has a whole lot of work to do to get there. Change in scheme on both offense and defense, and they don't currently have the personnel for either. They will use this year to get that stuff in order. Next season will have a playoff goal. If they make it this year, it would be gravy and an enormous surprise.

Playoffs or 2014 is a big year or fired. Any team that makes noise expects success or fires fast... Just how big boy football works.

Did you see that slop this year? Just for starters we need...

    2 safeties
    At least 1 CB
    At least 1 LB
    One DT
    One SDE
    2 Guards
    Center
    1 Tackle
    QB

11 new starters... plus we need to build some depth. We are far, far away.
