New Big Ten Divisions...

The easiest option would be to move Illinois to the other division and add both MD and Rutgers to PSU's division. That would result in minimal change and no have to real effect on the balance of power.

I thought this is what the AD for MD said was going to happen.

I remember that as well either the day UMD or RU was announced the crew from the BIG network asked Delaney flat out about that scenario and he said nothing was in stone and didn't know where it came from.

Penn State 7x National Champs, home of the winningest college football coach to ever grace a sideline.

I was thinking they could do a north-south type split. Looking at option 2, you go with

North: Neb, Minn, Ioa, Wisc, NW, MSU, UM

South: Pur, Ill, OSU, Ind, PSU, RU, UM.

But then you've got the two new schools in the same division.

  • Out of the options the BTN provided us, I ranked them:

    1. East/West
    2. Add Rutgers and UMD each to an existing division
    3. The dumbest idea is inner vs. outer, IMO.

I definitely like Andrew's idea of a North/South though. Makes the most sense, IMO.

  • How about the big 2 in one division and everyone else in the other division. You could name the divisions the haves and the have nots. This way scUM and O$U can play each other every week.

  • Inner/Outer is dumb.

Just add one to one division and one to another. East/West makes things way to lopsided when it comes to competitiveness. The three, arguably four, top programs in the conference would all be in the same division.

‏@Cordale10 Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS

  • Is this just for football, or are we going to have to go to divisions for other sports like the SEC with so many teams? If it is just football, travel costs are pretty minimal with just 4 road games. Don't think that will factor into things.

Of the choices given, I would pick option 2. I want to play OSU and Michigan every year and not worry how weak the other division is. Those schools will never allow this setup so it doesn't matter.

The safe bet as mentioned, is that they will add Maryland and Rutgers to our division and the campus squatters will get the boot.

  • A few weeks back, someone else proposed "Red, Not-red".

Believe it or not, it works pretty well.

Red: UNL, Minn, Wisc, IU, tOSU, U MD, RU
Not Red: IA, NW Ill, Msu, UM, PSU, PU

  • I hate that inside out garbage.

  • What about north south

North: minny, Wisconsin, nw, msu, um, psu, Rutgers
South: Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois, Purdue, Indiana, OSu, md

BTN.com has three proposed divisions for fans to vote on with the addition of Rutgers and Maryland.

Option 1: Add Rutgers to one existing division and Maryland to the other, and re-name both.

    Option 2: East/West

Option 3: Inner schools vs. outer schools (picture attached)

You can vote on BTN.com and it says the results will be forwarded to the conference office.

So which do you like best?

Guess I am in minority, I like playing OSU every year, I like the UW rivalry, and our game with Nebraska every year, give me UMD in our division and I am happy. RU we play like scUM. Other option I like is boot Indiana or Illinois and add both to us. Names are silly to get upset about, like Legends and Leaders.

    Can't really argue with that.

  • I'm guessing that Wisky was complaining about being stuck in the East which is why a simple move of Illinois to the west and RU and MD to the East is not an option.

  • As annoying as it is, I assume one of the main considerations in this will be the protection of the OSU-UM game. It seems the two new options are purposely putting them in the same division in order to prepare for the addition of two more teams. If we go to 9 conference games and cross divisional rivals are no more, they'll have to be lumped together.

  • Not sure if this has weight, but I know an ex-Terp player who is still a connected alum. He tells me the Terps were given this as their likely FB conference when the deal was cooking. He texted me this on Nov 19th. This guy was right on with a ton of stuff he fed me in past about Edsall, about Danny O'Brien, about Ralph F. NOT coming to PSU staff, etc. He knows his UMd stuff. Just spoke to him again this pat week and asked about the divisions, and he is pretty certain this is what it is goig to be.....

Terps, RU, PSU, OSU, Wiscky, Purdue, Indy.

The locked-in rival cross-over model would remain to ensure scUM and OSU annually as last game.

  • If I click Penn State as my favorite school, will my vote be completely discounted or will they reverse the order of my preference?

    I like that division format.

It would be stupid to not have PSU/UMD and RU all in the same division.

  • I didnt read this thread so I apologize if I "stole" someone else's idea. The most logical idea to me is to move Illinois and add Rutgers and UMD to the PSU division. Oh, and use this as an opportunity to rename the divisions.
