Nebraska Night Game

  • If we win this week and Nebraska wins their next two games, is there any chance that the Nebraska game is a night game? First, I always heard a rumor that Big Ten will not allow night games in November because it is too cold...I am not sure how true that is. The other thing holding it back would be Oregon/Stanford is that same day. I am not going to get greedy and say that GameDay should come here over Stanford, but I think a match up of two 1 loss teams in the Big Ten deserves a night game...thoughts?

Big Ten policy does not allow night games after October. Case closed. Wish it wasn't that way but it is.

  • The rumor is true. No night games in November.

just a note on that... GameDay has been to two Oregon games, and will be at USC this weekend for the Stanford game... so I doubt Oregon/Stanford gets it. I'd say Nebraska/PSU has a chance even at 3:30

  • IF PSU remains a one-loss team facing Nebraska AND Nebraska doesn't loose another game - there is a chance gameday shows up.

  • If we take care of the Illinois and Neb beats MSU at home there is a very good chance Gameday comes here. In fact, I'd be shocked if they didn't come. Would be similar to the OSU game last year that was a 3:30 kick in C-Bus. They know this may be it for Joe and it potentially being his last home game is a BIG story nationally. Combine that with 2 ranked national teams and selling yet another potential B1G champ game preview and there you go. And Gameday passed on the OK/KSU game cause of the times they already had OK on (2). There's just too much going on for them mot to come to this game, and they will also be able to put Ore/Stanford in the primetime slot if they wish.

Any idea why this is the case?

Becuase sometimes the coaches forget space heaters on the sidelines and it gets too cold.

  • A couple of thoughts then...

First, if we knew that the Nebraska game could not be a night game and the only other marquee game on the home schedule was Bama...why wasn't Bama a night game? I think the answer is because Michigan played their first ever night game on that same night...but Beaver Stadium is probably the greatest place in sports...and even better for a night game (okay, I am slightly biased). At what point do we actually get a say in what time our games are?

I agree GameDay should come for Nebraska. However, Herbstreit is going to be calling the Oregon/Stanford game. I hope this does not factor into the decision that he would have to fly cross country to get there after GameDay.

    Don't bet on it.

I remember the discussion a year or two ago about fans getting home too late as many of our fans drive long distance to the games, weather e.g. chance of snow or other problem weather, too cold, etc. I like the late night games and think many others do as well but the Big 10 runs things dictatorially in these situations and they have the last word.

I guess some of the reasons may be valid to a point but everyone knows what they have to do to drive to and from the game. It is a choice of the fan to attend or not. I suspect there is far more to it than protecting the fans on game day but the real reason won't be disclosed to us and I really don't have any substantial speculation as to what the Big 10 reason is. It would be a great spot light for the conference to have two special, one loss teams play the feature night game on ABC or ESPN. Obviously it can't be the money because they would do it in a heart beat if more cash was the option.

Well that's just one win for us. Even we can't lose a bye week

You never know, that Bye team is a heckuva squad. I remember back in 1987 they had a kid that played basketball....Joe recruited his father and the whole bit

  • Weather is practical problem however. If you were there for the last couple of MSU home games you'd know it gets COLD in state college in mid november. Playing at night makes it that much worse, and you eventually get in to fan safety issue in the stadium, and outside the stadium getting home.

Not to mention how well coached they are...
