  • Wow I didn't realize that the Flyers have to potential to sign both Parise and Suter...and still offer the largest deals. Snider needs a cup lol.

A lot of positive reports about Zach coming back to NJ. Has been on phone with Marty a lot today and Marty said he's "oretty positive" Zach will be a Devil, but we'll see. Sounds like Suter to Wings I'm a lot more optomistic than Iwas yesterday, but won't get excited until ink is dry on a contract with Devils. Nothing would surprise me though.

I would really want Suter on the Flyers over Parise. Defense is what I am more concerned about. Maybe trade for Bobby Ryan as well. Also I still don't get why the Penguins want Parise so bad, I think that the Flyers/Pens series proved that both teams were not that great defensively.

I will by no means want to trade Couturier. I think the kid can be the next Ron Francis. I thought this before Jagr. The kid was considered the #1 pick for a reason.

probably because he'd score 40-50 a year with Sid, is great in every phase of the game on every part of the ice, has tremendous leadership and is a great prescence in locker room

Defense wins championships. I want either Suter or Weber. If I can't sign Suter I possibly throw an offer sheet at Weber.

I am not saying that Parise is a bad player. He is a top 15 player in the NHL currently. I would take him in a heartbeat.

  • Wow, apparently the deals the Flyers offered to Suter and Parise are the largest they have money-wise. But money isnt everything.. Right?.. Right?!?

Word is Suter doesn't want to play in the East. Detroit makes the most sense at the moment, unfortunately.

If Brodeur hadn't signed with NJ, this would be over and he would be going somewhere else. That is the reason for the delay - the ONLY reason. Then again, when Parise signs an 8-10-year contract, does two years of Brodeur really matter when the majority of his next contract he wouldn't have Marty as a teammate?

Going home to think this out ... might benefit Minnesota. Then again, I'm trying to figure out that recruiting pitch ... you could play with Koivu and Heatley? LOL.

guys on NHL radio today were saying Parise is almost a done deal to the Penguins.

one thing is certain, Parise is going to get paid.

I'm glad Pittsburgh didn't do that with Parise.

Something tells me Suter will be a bust in Minnesota. He won't have Weber to bail his ass out.

Does this mean the Wild are play-off contenders? No. Still many holes on that roster.

It just means you are going to pay an outlandish figure to resign Carle.

You could make the same argument that Weber will bust because he won't have Suter to bail his ass out.

  • Flyers offer sheet Weber with a front loaded contract! The Preds can match but the question is will they with such a frontloaded contract and the CBA stuff in the future!

  • Nashville will match. They are a ton under the cap floor and few options out there to help increase that cap. Flyers just sped up the process. This is nothing more than Edmonton signing Vanek to a sheet a few years ago forcing Buffalo to overpay.

There's a lot of speculation out there that they simply won't risk matching and decimating their ability to sign anyone in the future.

Flyers front loaded the deal so that in the first year he would make $26 million. So Nashville might not want to take that on. So it's a little more than making Nashville overpay.

Yep, homer/snider did everything possible to try to stop them from matching. We'll see if it works.

  • Say what you want about the man, but Homer has got balls. Also I think Weber wants to be a Flyer! He played with Hartnell and Timonen, also he trains in the off season with Luke Schenn and possibly Brayden Schenn as well.

Nashville might not be able to afford to match from a fiscal point of view.

    Contract breakdown:

    2012-13 (age 27): $1 million salary + $13 million signing bonus (league maximum $14M)
    2013-14 (28): $1 million salary + $13 million signing bonus (league maximum $14M)
    2014-15 (29): $1 million salary + $13 million signing bonus (league maximum $14M)
    2015-16 (30): $1 million salary + $13 million signing bonus (league maximum $14M)
    2016-17 (31): $4 million salary + $8 million signing bonus (total $12 million)
    2017-18 (32): $4 million salary + $8 million signing bonus (total $12 million)
    2018-19 (33): $6 million salary
    2019-20 (34): $6 million salary
    2020-21 (35): $6 million salary
    2021-22 (36): $6 million salary
    2022-23 (37): $3 million salary
    2023-24 (38): $1 million salary
    2024-25 (39): $1 million salary
    2025-26 (40): $1 million salary
    TOTAL: $110 million

Those signing bonuses are a killer for small market teams. There's a real possibility that Nashville doesn't have that kind of money to plunk down all at once. Those first two years by themselves, that's 26 million dollars in bonuses alone in less than a calendar year.

    PureRockFury

  • Rumors Predators may be backing off matching the deal and may try to use the draft picks acquired through compensation to trade back to the flyers. Don't know what they're asking for.

Parise eliminated the rest of the Eastern Conference early. The reports of anyone other than NJ or a Western Conference team were all bunk. I figured it was NJ or Minny from the get go. Hard to blame him for going home, he already lived there in offseason, for 100 mil. I don't think with his style of play he'll make the end of that contract, but he'll be well worth the first 4-6 years.

Suter got WAAAAAYYY too much. Weber worth that money Philly offered, Suter benefitted from weak market.

They had huge offers on table for both Parise and Suter to come in as a combo. Don't see why they wouldn't be able to afford this deal.

Because of the massive signing bonuses. Those are paid out in one payment. Salaries are spread out over the course of a season.

yeah, but they had huge signing bonuses in the deals for Suter and parise as well. Nashville has the resources. Either way, no way Weber ever signs this deal without the new CBA looming. Preds are nuts if they let him go. Reading their statement, I don't see where they are backing down at all from matching.
