  • National writer sees Parise in Pittsburgh.

    Also this:
    "Randy Miller ‏@RandyJMiller

Apparently Crosby sat with Parise’s family in a suite for multiple games during Stanley Cup Final"

    and this:
"The Flyers Beat Writer Randy J. Miller said he heard numerous reports that the Pens will get Parise and Suter will go to the Red Wings."

Zach Parise, Ryan Suter and the Pittsburgh Penguins: Imagine the possibilities - Yahoo! Sports

From Yahoo! Sports: After trading away Jordan Staal and Zbynek Michalek, the Penguins are set up to take a run at the top free agents on the market.

-The Pens leaked the Staal extension info -Carolina thought they would be able to wait until next year -Shero pulls in NYR and Washington as bidders, Rutherford concedes Sutter and an excellent prospect (Dumoulin is on par, or better than Despres - could be a McDonagh type)

Shero did extremely well knowing that Staal was not going to sign an extension. the guy knows what he is doing. No doubt the Pens will be in on Parise and Suter. If Martin is moved good chance they land both.

The Pens will have an unreal backline in 2-3 years. Out of the past 4 drafts the Pens currently have 6 prospects that are on track to be Top 4 guys. This is in addition to Letang. Despres, Dumoulin, and Morrow should be regulars by the end of 2013/14.

Yandle was nearly a Penguin Friday night but the Pens needed just a bit more in terms of forward prospects.

Agree ... he did very well in the Staal deal. The guy has the uncanny ability to maximize his assets - except Michalek, which was a total salary dump. Yandle wouldn't have made sense for Pittsburgh, even though he is very good. The Pens have 50,000 puck moving defensemen. I'm doubting any report that had Yandle coming or almost being a Penguin.

Even if they dump Martin, getting both Parise and Suter, if that is even possible, would be a mistake. One or the other.

IMO, Shero will move one or two of these puck moving Dman prospects in larger deals, ala Goligoski. He is collecting a huge commodity in which people pay alot in return. Remember, Letang is going to be a free agent after 2013-2014. Unless the cap is a 85 million, or you sign Parise and Suter to four year deals, Letang won't be back after that year.

Picked a center. They apparently reached a little bit as he was rated as an early 2nd rounder. The Flyers of course had the 20th pick. Some are surprised that they didn't pick a blue liner. But apparently the one they wanted was picked a few choices earlier. Picked a goalie with their 2nd rounder.

    Thanks.

    Thanks.

The goalie was also a reach. Most had him rated around the 10th goalie in the draft and they took him as the third goalie. Could have traded down for him almost certainly.

  • Zach was in Pittsburgh with his agent for discussions with Uncle Lou Lamierello while he was at the draft.

  • Crosby to sign 12-13 yr deal for over 100m. Now lets get Parise and/or Suter.

That is a long contract for someone with major injury history. Could work out great, but that's a whole lot of years. Lindros flashbacks for me, hope he can stay healthier because he's a delight to watch play, as much as I can't stand some of the things he does.

I think it was a good move for the city of Pittsburgh and the Penguins future to have him secure for the haul. I am hoping his concussion/head injury is behind him and he finally has a full off-season without having to deal with the issue. I think once they realized it was a neck issue that was causing a lot of his problems, that might've provided a lot of different solutions than he was getting.

Still, I am happy. If we can somehow keep Malkin and have 2 100m players on this team, we have a nice setup going on.

I believe in Ray Shero and the current ownership.

  • Ugh. Flyers first move in free agency - re-sign Leighton to be the backup goalie. Give me a freaking break. Bryz better be a wall this year.

Haha, I trust Homer, I just hate Leighton. Not an NHL caliber backup unless he miraculously learned how to cover his five hole.

I watched the Blackhawks Stanley Cup winner against him this morning.. Terrible. You're a professional goalie, that can't go in

  • Suter/Parise:

Sources said the Flyers made the same 12-year offer to both players, deals in excess of $80 million and perhaps as high as $110 million. Their offer is for more money than any other, sources say.

    Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?!?!?!?!?!

Yep. I'm hearing 12/100+. I heard it's well over 80 and well above other teams' offers. Snider and Homer know what they want and apparently know what they can afford. Interesting.......

Just like a said on the first page, Homer isn't afraid to make a move and Snyder doesn't give a f*** about costs.

Right. I get that but there is a cap and the Flyers only have about 13mil free right now. If they both were to agree to 9mil+ cap hits we have some serious gymnastics to go through. Pronger's contract can't come off until the season starts which hurts as well. There have been whispers of potential clauses in the new CBA including an amnesty provision and a home-grown player provision. My only thought is that maybe Homer/Snider know these will indeed happen and are planning to amnesty Pronger and exempt a contract like Couturier with the home-grown clause. Who knows...obviously they know what they are doing. Part of me sees this like last year with Stamkos. The flyers played ball but never seemed in it to win. It could just be a power play to excite fans and make it clear they are willing to go for it whether they end up with the players or not. Not gonna lie though, Parise and Hartsy centered by G would be one dirty top line.

Snider is arguably the most powerful owner in the league. He probably has a very good feel for the CBA negotiations. I think this is a bit more real than the Stamkos situation. I think they could have accomplished the same thing much more easily with the Rick Nash rumors. Putting out an offer is definitely more firm than being in trade talks IMO. Who knows though, tomorrow will be fun. Last I heard Suter didn't want to be in Philly, but money changes everything.

  • I would really want Suter on the Flyers over Parise. Defense is what I am more concerned about. Maybe trade for Bobby Ryan as well. Also I still don't get why the Penguins want Parise so bad, I think that the Flyers/Pens series proved that both teams were not that great defensively.

I will by no means want to trade Couturier. I think the kid can be the next Ron Francis. I thought this before Jagr. The kid was considered the #1 pick for a reason.

  • Pittsburgh has some really good defenseman that will be in the NHL within 2 years if not sooner.

    Crosby, Neal, Parise
    Malkin, sutter, dupuis

That's a very formidable 2 lines and add in LeTang on D with the young guys...

If fleury is any kind of consistent, they will be very much in mix next year

Only way I'm ok with a Bobby Ryan deal is if we can get it done w/o Couturier or B Schenn. I think Mezz, Voracek and or Read gets it done but even that is a TON to give up. Voracek was very underrated last year and is still just 22.

  • Personally I am an original six guy. I would want to play for any of those teams just because of the history. I also would want to play for the Flyers and that is not because I am a fan. The Flyers are probably the biggest non original six team, lots of history.

Agree, defense has to be our top priority. But trading for Bobby Ryan would be a bad idea, it would take Couturier and possibly Schenn from what I've heard, which I would hate to see. I think both of them have the potential to be better than Ryan anyway, and pretty soon at that.

Did you see that post about Jake's goals per 60 being the highest on the team? Something I never would have guessed.

Yeah, that's what based my opinions on him. I actually loved his play in the playoffs.

Because they only have one real top six winger. Getting Parise gives them a second, so they can give one each to Crosby and Malkin.
