-The Pens leaked the Staal extension info -Carolina thought they would be able to wait until next year -Shero pulls in NYR and Washington as bidders, Rutherford concedes Sutter and an excellent prospect (Dumoulin is on par, or better than Despres - could be a McDonagh type)
Shero did extremely well knowing that Staal was not going to sign an extension. the guy knows what he is doing. No doubt the Pens will be in on Parise and Suter. If Martin is moved good chance they land both.
The Pens will have an unreal backline in 2-3 years. Out of the past 4 drafts the Pens currently have 6 prospects that are on track to be Top 4 guys. This is in addition to Letang. Despres, Dumoulin, and Morrow should be regulars by the end of 2013/14.
Yandle was nearly a Penguin Friday night but the Pens needed just a bit more in terms of forward prospects.

Picked a center. They apparently reached a little bit as he was rated as an early 2nd rounder. The Flyers of course had the 20th pick. Some are surprised that they didn't pick a blue liner. But apparently the one they wanted was picked a few choices earlier. Picked a goalie with their 2nd rounder.

That is a long contract for someone with major injury history. Could work out great, but that's a whole lot of years. Lindros flashbacks for me, hope he can stay healthier because he's a delight to watch play, as much as I can't stand some of the things he does.
You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game, life or football-the margin for error is so small. -Pacino

Suter/Parise:
Sources said the Flyers made the same 12-year offer to both players, deals in excess of $80 million and perhaps as high as $110 million. Their offer is for more money than any other, sources say.

Right. I get that but there is a cap and the Flyers only have about 13mil free right now. If they both were to agree to 9mil+ cap hits we have some serious gymnastics to go through. Pronger's contract can't come off until the season starts which hurts as well. There have been whispers of potential clauses in the new CBA including an amnesty provision and a home-grown player provision. My only thought is that maybe Homer/Snider know these will indeed happen and are planning to amnesty Pronger and exempt a contract like Couturier with the home-grown clause. Who knows...obviously they know what they are doing. Part of me sees this like last year with Stamkos. The flyers played ball but never seemed in it to win. It could just be a power play to excite fans and make it clear they are willing to go for it whether they end up with the players or not. Not gonna lie though, Parise and Hartsy centered by G would be one dirty top line.

I would really want Suter on the Flyers over Parise. Defense is what I am more concerned about. Maybe trade for Bobby Ryan as well. Also I still don't get why the Penguins want Parise so bad, I think that the Flyers/Pens series proved that both teams were not that great defensively.
I will by no means want to trade Couturier. I think the kid can be the next Ron Francis. I thought this before Jagr. The kid was considered the #1 pick for a reason.
