I believe Mortensen was incorrect. Baltimore Sun reported that the Ravens are now 16.7 million under the cap (after the Boldin trade which freed up 4.5 million). The Ravens have a ton of free agents....lots of tough decisions for the Ravens in the next 24 hours.

I believe Boldin was set to make $6 million this year. By trading Boldin, the Raven saved $4.5 million and are still on the books for the remaining $1.5 million. San Fran has to pay $4.5 million to Boldin this year.

Boldin's salary would have been $6 million. His cap hit this year would have been salary plus pro-rated portion of $10 million/four year signing bonus (or $2.5 million if Rotoworld's contract figures are correct), which combine for $8.5 million. The bonus money, since already paid, will still be on the books for the Ravens in dead cap space ($2.5 million). Niners will have to pay the full $6 million salary. If there was a split bonus involved, this cap figures may be a bit different, but the 49ers are responsible for total salary. Ravens save $6 million against the cap ($8.5 million minus dead cap space).

Flacco's deal has absolutely no bearing on the Boldin situation. Flacco's cap number this upcoming season is relatively small ($7 million to $8 million from what I've read), which is quite common in the first year or two of a huge deal where almost all the money is paid out as bonus and not salary. Boldin's cap number his year would have been about $8.5 million. The Ravens simply do not have the cap space for Boldin. Had the Ravens paid less for Flacco, it would not have changed a thing with regard to Boldin.
When the Ravens signed Boldin three years ago to his 4-year deal, they knew that there was a salary escalation coming this year and that they would have to either re-negotiated to lower his cap hit or trade/release him. This was no surprise. I'm very sad to see him go but am glad he got traded to the NFC.

The Vikings and Harvin have found some way to keep his migraines under control. To the best of my knowledge he's not missed a game due to migraines in 2-3 years.

Pouha's release is a bit surprising. He was a good NT. The Jets drafted a good prospect at NT recently, though (last year I think).
Jared Cook is a good player, but key will be going to a team that will actually use him as a receiver consistently.
