I dont understand why you have to be appologetic to be a PSU homer on a PSU board.

I think you should get a set of blue tinted goggles upon entry myself.

Sorry to rmj this thread guys.

That said, I think it is stupid to be a homer anywhere anytime. Its like living in a false reality and putting your head in the sand. Sorry, I don't do that. Shit happens, it isn't always good. There's being a fan, and being ridiculous.

Actually lost a little weight. Have to get new belts, still too much though. Got lazy after college.

    Grow any?

Much love shavi. you're the man.

EDIT: Since I don't want to go all the way back through this, what do you think of the Eagles 1st round pick? And where are you thinking they head next?

True story, I used to go to Dorney Park every year and when I was like 10 all I wanted to do was ride the roller coasters, so my mom sent my brothers into the bathroom and told them to stuff my shoes with as many paper towels as possible to help me gain an inch or so and get on the rides.

Luckily 5'5 gets onto everything, so I'm good now flex

I loved the Cox pick. Knew they were gonna take a DT and I think they got the best one in the draft in Cox (thanks to the Chiefs jumping at a combine wonder in Poe).

Eagles have two middle 2nds, so who knows. The biggest need is at DB and I hear they want Janoris Jenkins. I'm curious where Upshaw would fall to as well, as he's got a lot of talent to put as an OLB. Would be better in a 34 I'd imagine, but whatever, kid's got talent.

They also want to take a QB in the 2nd-5th, so we'll see there. Maybe Cousins earlier or Wilson later?

Man, I go back and forth on Upshaw. Idk if he has the pure size and frame to be a DE and Idk if he is athletic enough to play LB. But I also hate betting against the guys who just make plays.

I think Poe was always a first rounder but way too high in the end.

    fan=fanatic.

    1. a person whose enthusiasm or zeal for something is extreme or beyond normal limits. A person with an extreme and uncritical enthusiasm or zeal, as in religion or politics.

Just sayin, its ok to like the guys on your team more than you like guys on other teams. I think thats where we dont see eye to eye on a lot of things, regardless of that fact that I understand you know a good deal about football and I enjoy the info you give on recruits.

I dont mind letting my bias toward Penn State affect how I feel about someone. Next thing you know you'll be telling me that Lavar's leap wasnt the greatest feat every accomplished by any athlete in the history of the world.

And thats ok. It's just not going to make me feel stupid or ridiculous because I dont mind being a fan. And it also doesnt mean I cant look at things obectively... because I dont think Derek Moye is going to amount to a pile of dog shit in the NFL, and his Michigan State/Illinois heroics are things of legend to me already.

Oh, and Matt McGloin sucks. So theres that.

    The Heel

  • I actually like Moye more than most. QB situation and injuries killed him last year. And of course he let himself down too with bad hands. This coaching staff would have done wonders in teaching him the finer points of being a WR.

Im pretty extreme fan. I pay to be on a website to talk football. I watch every game I can (all sports). I like the guys on my team more than others and will defend them when appropriate. But im not going to be a homer. That isn't a fan, its dumb. Im not going to be overtly critical and cynical either, because thats dumb. Im going to root for my guys, defend them, and be as objective as I can. Thats being smart.

No doubt he could have used Fitz to get that upper body strength up to par or at least close.

Quick note about the injury: He averaged 4.6 catches for 80 yards a game pre foot injury and 2.4 catches for 28 yards per game after.

Maybe I just expected so much more from him regardless of who was tossing him the ball. And watching him drop all those deep balls didnt make up for the slant route he ran to save the game against Temple. He just doesnt seem physical enough to me to be able to succeed on the next level. And thats been the knock on him since highschool. Hopefully I'm wrong and he lights it up in the redzone for someone.

    The Heel

  • He wasnt coached well. That was the problem with DWill too. DWill never learned the finer points of being a receiver. Hell of an athlete though, always was hoping he would really put it together in the pros, still hope he does with the Steelers.

Just going over guys left. I have a feeling we may draft Worthy with #34 and I am going to be the guy whose team took another B1G DT over Stll, lol.

  • I'm still pissed at Seattle. You had 3 picks to choose from:

    Michael Floyd
Mark Barron (if he fell to them)
    David DeCastro

if you want to add in Ingram, fine.

If you look at how Seattle built the powerhouse team they had in the late 90's, early 00's, it was built around, Walter Jones (HOF), and Steve Hutchinson (possible HOF). They have a LT in place, they have Carpenter at guard, but I think he was hurt...Draft DeCastro, and solidify that OL for 10+ years.

Instead, they reach for a kid who has had off the field problems, is a situational player, and a project. Hell if you wanted to go DE, why not go with Chandler Jones from Syracuse?

It's decisions like this, that explains why Pete Carroll has sucked in the NFL.

Bullshit. FWIW, Paterno said he's the best DT he ever coached.

As I am just reading through the thread, I think that Paterno referred to Jared Odrick as one of the best Defensive Lineman to play at Penn State. Not saying Paterno did not hold Still in the same regard as Odrick, but I never read an article saying that, so I could be wrong.

    ----
Penn State All-American defensive tackle Jared Odrick finds himself in a pretty exclusive neighborhood.

Joe Paterno recently compared Odrick to some of the best defensive linemen he has coached in his 44-year Hall of Fame career.

Paterno rattled off the names of Matt Millen and Mike Reid, two first-team All-Americans, and he also mentioned Steve Smear, a second-team All-American who played alongside Reid on the Nittany Lions' undefeated teams in 1968 and '69.

"[Odrick's] played really well, he's a great leader on the field and he reminds me a lot of the good ones we've had," Paterno said. "Matt Millen, who played defensive tackle for us, is the same kind of guy." . . .

I'd love to see the Bills take Hill here.
    Or one of 3 OTs.
And I like the Gilmore pick. Mike Mayock--only draft "guru" with a brain--had him as 8th best player.

Gilmore is a great pick, Bills fans should be happy.

Well that thread makes most look weak.

I was afraid I was coming off as an ass, and I dont want to. I like Heel, he's a good member of the forum and hardly the biggest homer.

Think with picks 46 and 51? I think they could sit and get both or get Lavonte and an OT or compliment back.

Good to hear. If you discount Jenkins' off the field issues, he would grade out comparably to Claiborne. He would be a great value pick in the 2nd round considering he would have been a bonafide top 15 pick if it wasn't for his off the field antics.

With Kirkpatrick off the board, I think Janoris Jenkins is the last "top tier" CB left on the board. Plus, this is what I read on rotoworld earlier today:

According to NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora, North Alabama CB Janoris Jenkins is "very hot" heading into the second round of the draft.
Several teams are looking to trade up for Jenkins, which LaCanfora believes could lead to a team like the Ravens trading down one more time. A shutdown corner in the SEC two years ago, Jenkins is easily the most talented player available on Friday. In addition to Jenkins, Rotoworld's Evan Silva lists WR Rueben Randle, TE Coby Fleener, DE Courtney Upshaw, G/T Cordy Glenn, DT Devon Still, OG Amini Silatolu, OT Jonathan Martin, C/G Peter Konz, and CB Brandon Boykin as the top 10 players available.

So IMO Jenkins is going to come off the board within the first 10 picks of the 2nd round.

Dwill is actually an underrated route runner. Remember the Michigan game in 06? They were #2 in America, and they knocked 2 of our QBs out. On the play Morelli got taken out, it was on a 25 yard completion to Derrick Williams, who ran this gorgeous post-corner - which can be a tough route to run because of all the twisting and cutting at high speed. His problem was that he could make the spectacular plays, but struggled with the easy ones, With the Lions, he was actually winning the #3 WR job in training camp this last year, but a series of drops in pre-season games evrntually led the Lion to cut him. He needs a football whisperer pr something.

Moye has the opposite problem. As far as i can tell, he only runs 2 routes, will consistently make the easy to intermediate plays, but rarely pulls off the more difficult plays. He's got size and speed, and he's surprisingly fluid in the open field - but as an NFL fan...I don't trust him in the clutch, and i'm worried about him keeping in shape thanks to his rep as a partyer. Alcohol and elite athletecism simply don't mix. Just too many harmful, unhealthy ingredients in alcohol for someone to reach peak physical condition, of they're als pounding drinks on the weekends and off days.
