I think PSU wil be fine when it comes to the violations, unless they somehow appear out of thin air

Not so sure I would count on that. I am a Buckeye and know a thing or two about highs and lows from the crap single people can do to damage a whole program. My initial thought is to remove the cancer and start over. PSU has done all the right things since this has blown up and none of the players or students have done a single thing to deserve this. But your leadership team really made some terrible decisions that ruined lives. It was done to protect a worthless piece of crap and to protect the football program which comes down to $$$. I just can't see the NCAA sitting on their hands.

I am a B1G fan and wish you the best. This conference needs PSU and I appreciate what O'Brien is doing on the recruiting front.

"Well I don't want to necessarily tie to those things together." (PSU and the death penalty)
Starting at 0:47 - "What the appropriate penalties are, if there are determinations of violations,*** we'll have to decide."
0:55 - We'll hold off all of those decisions until we actually decide what we want to do with the actual charges should there be any."
2:37 - Whatever penalty structure is put in place, again, if there's findings of violations of our rules"

So tell me, why is everyone freaking out again? This interviewer tried to keep hammering on about the death penalty and Emmert kept making a point to mention that they have yet to find any NCAA violations. Overall, a worthless interview and I'm not exactly sure why Emmert would do it in the first place. But he literally gave himself an out almost every chance he could. People take a chill pill. This only helps show that we're in the clear because there are no NCAA violations involved.

Reading your post and reading the article paint the interview in two different ways. It's funny how someone can hand select quotes to tell the story they want it. The guy who wrote the artie makes it sound like Emmert is goin to drop the hammer on penn state.

  • I do get scared sometimes because then I read the Baylor basketball scandal when a player murdered his teamate and coach covered it up. When the NCAA came calling with the Death Penalty....er wait

I read the article and then watched the video clip and also came away with two different impressions.

Emmert came off as someone that knows the NCAA painted itself into a corner with the November letter and is now looking for an out. That out is either conceding that no NCAA rules were violated and that this is a criminal and civil justice matter, or making an NCAA violation whole cloth. Neither puts the NCAA in a good spot.

His comment about discussions with PSU suggests that the NCAA is desperately trying to negotiate an agreed upon response with PSU to side step the above issues.

  • Legally I am confident the NCAA cant do anything but that doesn't mean they won't. What I worry about is Penn State not fighting the sanctions in court. They could definitely win in court but I am afraid they wouldn't fight any potential sanctions because it would make them look bad as if football is more important, what about the victims, yada yada yada.

Side note: LOIC is clearly a matter of compliance. NCAA experts have already gave numerous statements saying if the NCAA were to find Penn State showed LOIC, they would have to show they had LOIC with athletic COMPLIANCE. Not LOIC with a pedophile.

We shall see but until the NCAA launches an official investigation I am not worrying.

  • bonovoxpsu: Ha I got all three biggrin. So hypothetically if they give Penn State the death penalty, even if their own rule book prohibits it. There is nothing Penn State could do? They can't fight the NCAA in court?
